Water wells are designed to install equipment such as taps, gate valves, fire hydrants. As a rule, they are made of precast concrete, less often of brick. They come in different sizes and shapes.
Reinforced concrete structures
The water well can be either round or rectangular. It is made for pipes from the following materials:
- reinforced concrete;
- brick and concrete.
Round structures have the following sizes: 1000, 1500, 2000 mm. A diameter of 1250 mm is also added to all the listed dimensions, if the structure has a brick. The maximum size of the well, which has a rectangular shape, is 4500x4000m.
A water well consists of a reinforced concrete slab, which is installed on compacted soil. A prerequisite is the horizontal position of the plate, otherwise the ring structure will not stand. At the point of pipe insertion into the well, a sleeve should be installed if it is made of PVC. This must be done in case of a draft of the well so that there is no breakthrough.
A water well is placed depending on the depth of the pipes. At the top of the structure, a ring with a hatch is installed and the neck is laid out with a brick. Much attention is paid to high-quality external waterproofing and the correct drainage system. Typically, the blocks are coated on the outside with bitumen, however this method is a bit outdated.
When constructing a water well, new materials for waterproofing are being adopted. You can use RubberElast tape or rope (hemp, jute or linen). The rope does not have to be impregnated with bitumen, but can be coated with Kiilto Fiberpool fiberglass. This is a special mastic that is used as waterproofing.
Polyethylene tanks
An alternative to the concrete structure is a plastic water well, the price of which is much lower. Polymer systems are becoming increasingly popular due to not only cost but also material reliability.
Welded plastic tanks, depending on the functions performed, are divided into:
- inspection;
- storm;
- sedimentary;
- for locking equipment;
- for measuring instruments.
Plastic analogues in comparison with reinforced concrete structures have the following advantages:
- excluded the possibility of displacement due to groundwater;
- installation is accelerated;
- light weight;
- low thermal conductivity of the material ;
- durability;
- impact resistance;
- resistance to mechanical damage;
- frost resistance;
- not susceptible to corrosion;
- large selection of designs.
Such systems are also popular because the installation of water wells can be done independently. Welded tanks are manufactured at the factory. An order can be made in advance, and the system will be manufactured in strict accordance with it. The tightness in this case will be much higher. Additional items may be included with these products.
Arrangement of a sealed chamber for water supply is also quite convenient, since the system operates under pressure.
