Impact screwdriver: twist and twist, I want to help you

Mechanical and locksmithing work are ordinary, urgent and extreme. When it is the turn of the latter, masters, as a rule, swear at what the light is worth. For we are talking about a problem that you won’t solve so easily, and you can even destroy a tool.

Impact screwdriver

You don’t have to go far for examples. It is impossible to unscrew the rusted screws and self-tapping screws with an ordinary screwdriver without risk of either tearing off the cap or ditching the sting and thereby rendering the tool unusable. Another “abusive” case is the unscrewing of a highly corroded steel bolt from an aluminum part (and the steel-aluminum pair is known for its “love” for mutual attachment). It would be nice to warm the bolt properly, but not every detail can do this ...

However, the locksmith’s arsenal has a tool that can cope with the above problems: a rotary impact driver. Its name itself explains the principle of action: the transformation of shock-translational motion into rotational.

The appearance of this tool is already respectable. The impact screwdriver has a metal case reinforced with a chromium-vanadium alloy several times larger than that of its "sister", and is designed for hammering. Actually, the dimensions of the case with the notch rings are made in such a way that the screwdriver during operation could be held with a non-working hand.

Impact screwdriver
The main “actor” is a bat, or nozzle, with which an impact screwdriver transfers rotational energy. Nozzles, as a rule, come with it in the kit or are purchased separately. They are of two types: with a flat sting and a cruciform. Nozzles are inserted into the connecting part of a square shape. On it, you can also fix socket wrenches. This allows you to use the tool for working with bolts and nuts, which is especially convenient for car mechanics.

For an impact screwdriver to be truly universal, it must have a reverse function. This is realized by the direction switch, which ensures the rotation of the head of the screwdriver with the nozzle both clockwise and against it. The reverse function, firstly, allows you to use the tool also for firmly twisting the self-tapping screw or other fasteners, and secondly, acting on the connection in the "twist-unscrew" mode, you can release the most hopeless bolt.

There is absolutely nothing complicated about using an impact screwdriver. It is enough to set the desired direction of rotation on it, take it into the idle hand, insert the nozzle tip into the slot of the screw / screw (or put the key on the bolt head) and strike with a hammer on the end of the screwdriver.
How to use an impact screwdriver
So that her body does not slip in the palm of her hand, she must be in a glove. Impact combined with rotation crushes the rust on the screw. As soon as he is free and turns a few degrees, you should use the reverse function and make a few strokes. This should further free the threads of the fasteners from rust. The subsequent reverse in most cases finally turns the attached bolt or screw.

An impact screwdriver has long been firmly established in the tools of large and small workshops, at vehicle service stations, in locksmith workshops and in the boxes of home craftsmen. The most advanced and high-quality samples, made almost always in Germany, have no other reviews than excellent.
