About what trash in culture

Not everyone knows what trash is. Today this short word has several meanings and is represented in many areas of life: in fashion, art, literature, music, street graphics, cinema.

What is trash? The literal translation is “garbage” (English). But a simple translation is clearly not enough for us. This word has recently acquired a completely new meaning. It is consonant, of course, to a certain extent with its basic definition. In the most general sense, trash is something that goes against the generally recognized, violates the usual framework. Everything done in this style was done hastily, without any respect for the design, theme, material.

To understand what trash is as a cultural phenomenon, you need to remember America. They began to call the word "trash" the "white dregs of society", which did not accept traditional principles and norms, but did the opposite. The emerging trend has turned into a youthful subculture, the basic principles of which were based on a maximalist perception of the world and the psychology of adolescence. What can be expected from a culture that has developed among children who are not able to recognize the shades of life, but who divide the world only into black and white? The main principle of such a philosophy was "the more radical, the better." Do everything exactly the opposite. Antimode. Anti-culture. Anti-relationship. So to speak, a mass rebellion against a "mass" culture.

It consists in active interaction with glamor, with which it has many common features: marginality, exclusivity, aggressiveness, awkwardness. If you look at the models and manifestations of such a subculture as trash (photo), you can easily notice it.

There is a concept of "trash" rock. It is called "treshkor" or "fastcore". He appeared in the 80s, in the USA. This is something very similar to hardcore, only in its faster variation. Songs are usually short, filled with punch and shock riffs. Vocal line often discord with instrumental texture. But this manner of performance is by no means anti-musical. The lyrics are social; they contain attempts to criticize social phenomena and social injustice.

What is trash in fashion? To simplify it to the maximum, the “fashion trash” is terrifying colors, causing models, a combination of incongruous. That is, a complete disregard for decency, challenges to public opinion and philistine taste. And yet - it's ubiquitous piercings and tattoos, countless accessories, acid hair color, dreadlocks, false eyelashes, etc. Brightness and originality are important here, one might even say brutality, as well as unpredictability and energy. Fresh models do not appear on the catwalks. They exist contrary to them, as opposed to fashion. If fashion designers dictate that tight pants are relevant, then trash “sews” the widest flare. This style is the desire to stand out from the crowd as unconventionally and extraordinary as possible. The main thing is not to have rules, but to be creative.
