Childhood and student years
The biography of Mikhail Verbitsky begins on June 20, 1969. A native of Moscow from childhood showed extraordinary mathematical abilities, because his parents identified him in the math class of school number 57. Later, a talented boy was transferred to school number 91, where he also engaged in an in-depth study of the exact sciences. Nevertheless, the boy Misha dreamed of being a philologist, not a mathematician.
At the insistence of his parents, he entered the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics at the prestigious university of Moscow State University named after MV Lomonosov. Mikhail Verbitsky was far from an exemplary student. He was expelled from the university twice. This is despite the fact that he already had a number of scientific papers. In particular, in the late 1980s he tried to date his own proof of Bogomolov's decomposition theorem.
Verbitsky was not able to get an education in his homeland, and he went to America for knowledge.
During the year (1990 to 1991), he attended classes at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Then he entered Harvard, where he successfully graduated from graduate school.
In 1995, mathematician Mikhail Verbitsky defended his thesis and received a PhD in mathematics (Doctor of Sciences).
It was during that period that our hero loved social networks. Rather, he mastered Yuznet (the Internet as such was not there then). The ability to create printed text without censorship and receive answers from outsiders so captured Verbitsky Mikhail that it became an integral part of his life.
Professional activity
After obtaining his degree, Mikhail Sergeyevich Verbitsky got a job (in 1996) at the Princeton Institute for Advanced Studies, where he worked until 1997.
At the same time, he began to teach at the Independent University of Moscow.
In 1999, co-authored with Dmitry Kaledin, Mikhail Verbitsky published the book Hyperkaehler manifolds, in which he opposes copyright.
Since 2002, our hero has been an employee of the University of Glasgow. In parallel with this, in 2003-2010, Mikhail Sergeyevich taught at the Institute of Theoretical and Experimental Physics.
However, in 2008 he lectured to students in Tokyo.
And since 2010, he worked at the HSE Matfak.
In 2015, doctors of mathematical sciences were invited to the Brussels Free University (Belgium).

Recently, Tiphareth has been actively criticizing the Russian state and its traditions. He wrote harsh remarks about censorship on Wikipedia.
Conflict with Kuklachev
Verbitsky is categorically against any censorship on the Internet. It is because of this that he became a participant in the judicial conflict. Having published a blog post that Kuklachev uses electric shock when training his charges, he aroused the anger of the national artist.
Yuri Kuklachev filed a lawsuit against our hero for defamation and insult.
People understand freedom of speech as “freedom of abuse”. It turns out that I can come up, spit in your face, and say - I'm a free person!
Mikhail Sergeyevich was not only indignant at the fact that Kuklachev opposed freedom of speech. Unable to mutually agree, the parties to the conflict came to court.
In February 2010, a court session was held, during which Kuklachev’s lawsuit was fully satisfied, and Verbitsky was forced to pay the trainer forty thousand Russian rubles as moral compensation.
