Choosing lawn mower oil

Every summer begins the season of active use of gasoline technology. Even in our country in recent years, lawn mowers, previously known to us only by television films, have been actively used.

Of course, the users of such a tool have a lot of problems, since not everyone has the experience of its correct operation. In particular, a special headache is caused by lawnmower oil, the choice of which is far from so simple. By the way, in this regard, it would be worthwhile to say that many buyers set themselves fundamentally the wrong criteria for choosing lubricants, since they poorly imagine the main operational characteristics of the equipment they use.

Very often they forget that even lawnmower oil needs to be chosen, also focusing on the ambient temperature.

It is known that any lubricant for four-stroke engines must meet certain SAE viscosity values. Of course, lawn grass at very low ambient temperatures grows very poorly, so when buying, you need to focus on those products whose indicator for this parameter corresponds to summer operation.

Most manufacturers say that SAE 30 compliant lawnmower oil is optimal. The use of less viscous varieties for cold climates and thicker greases for hot regions is also not welcome. Why?

The thing is the design of these devices. To reduce the cost and simplify their production, designers excluded the oil pump from their composition. As a result, lubrication of all moving parts of the engine is carried out thanks to the crankshaft, which in the process of its movement “scoops” it out of the crankcase, evenly distributing the lubricant due to friction in all parts. That is why oil for gasoline lawn mowers can not be bought in the first store that comes across, since later you can be “happy” with the bill for its repair.

Thus, if the consistency of the lubricant is too thin, the latter will simply drain from the crankshaft back into the crankcase. If it is too thick, then over time such a substance can turn into an amorphous solid mass, which also will not lead to anything good.

Cars are much better protected from such troubles, since a special oil pump is responsible for the uniformity of engine lubrication . Theoretically, all lawnmower oil can be used in cars, but standard products for cars will not always work with another technique.

Fortunately, today in almost all specialized retail chains specialized lubricant of the SAE 30 class is sold. But only such retail outlets are not in all cities, not to mention smaller settlements. So what kind of oil to fill in a lawn mower in the absence of specialized options?

Experts say that greases of the SAE 15W-40 and SAE 20W-50 class are best suited for this purpose. Moreover, the purchase of "synthetics" or mineral oil does not have much significance, since lawn mowers are still not used in the equally difficult conditions in which racing cars have to ride.
