The fifth part of the "Ancient Scrolls" presented to the players a lot of unique content and innovations, among which the special place was taken by the dragon language of Skyrim. Once upon a time, it was spoken by ancient dragons that inhabited the vast expanses of Tamriel. A little later, the first Nords began to speak the language, which adopted knowledge from their dragon teachers.
In modern Skyrim, dragon language is considered a real rarity. He is used by the main character, Dovakin, to learn Tu'umu, the ancient power of screaming.
History
From game sources it becomes clear that traces of the first writing in the Skyrim dragon language appeared at the end of the Meretic era (as much as 5 thousand years ago). At first it was used by dragons alone, who then shared knowledge with their students - the first Nords. Then they created a whole cult of the Dragon Priests, which played a big role during the enslavement of Tamriel by Alduin.
With the extermination of the cult, the language itself was forgotten. Currently, he has become part of history and numerous legends.
Additional Information
The writing of the dragon language from "Skyrim" (games) has similar features with the cuneiform system. Once upon a time, it was used as an alphabet by the ancient Babylonians, Sumerians, and representatives of some other peoples.
The language was first described in one of the gaming magazines in 2011. Articles invited readers to familiarize themselves with the translation of the screen saver and in some words.
This is perhaps one of the most complete, artificially created by man. The alphabet of the dragon language from "Skyrim" includes thirty-six characters, from which you can make more than a thousand of the most varied words. Also, the language obeys a certain grammar.
general characteristics
Dragon language can be divided into written and spoken. Its structure is compared with the structure of the English language, with the exception of several common features: the names of adjectives occupy the starting position in all (practically) sentences, there are no verbs and apostrophes.
The plural is obtained by adding two new letters to the end. The conditions are as follows: one letter must be a copy of the last original word, while the other is “e” (its place at the very end).
If we continue to compare the dragon language with English (the closest "relative"), we can identify several other important differences. In the language of Skyrim:
- missing any times;
- adjectives are formed by adding the -us suffix. Example: LOSTUS;
- most letters are capitalized and written in accordance with this rule;
- the sound of the letter "c" is transmitted through the letters s and k.
Any rune in the language of dragons is written in three straight (but not perfect) lines, more like scratches. The end of each rune is determined by a point. Such "minimalism" of writing can be caused by the structure of dragon paws - three large claws and one small.
In the spoken language, there are not only simple and everyday phrases, but also special phrases, which include three words. Such phrases are called Tu'um, which in translation means "scream." Separately, they do not have any surprising effects, but they can show magic if someone special speaks them. Such creatures, with the exception of dragons, who are the first creators and native speakers, have a special name - Dovakin.
Mentioned in Skyrim: Dragon Book, Wall of Power, and more
Perhaps the most frequent occurrence of the dragon tongue in Skyrim is through the "Walls of Power" - a kind of tombstones that can be found anywhere in the game world. The front surface of these stones is filled with long texts dedicated to the fallen soldiers and heroes.
It is on the "Walls of Power" that the Tu'ums are written, which are used by the main character to obtain unique abilities. To begin to read words and learn new screams, you must go through a special quest with the elders.
During his journey through the northern province, the player may stumble upon one interesting book called "Dragon Language is no longer a myth." Where can I find a book about dragon language? There are several suitable locations in Skyrim: Sky Harbor Temple, Arcaneum, Volkihar Castle and Autumn Watchtower.
The dragon language is also spoken by the dragons themselves, who appear in the game after the resurrection of Alduin.
