Hans Christian Andersen, a world-renowned Dane, prose writer and poet, was truly a great storyteller. Until now, and a lot of time has passed since the publication of his works, his creations are still loved by both children and adults. He wrote many children's fairy tales, known to us from the cradle, including “The Snow Queen” and “The Little Mermaid”, “Thumbelina” and “Shadow”. A vivid example and fairy tale "The Ugly Duckling". Hans Christian Andersen for his seventy-year life wrote more than 170 works in poetry and prose. And some researchers of his work say that not less than 200! Many people know their summary. “The Ugly Duckling” (a fairy tale by H. H. Andersen) is no exception. Let us and we recall its main plot.
Summary: “The Ugly Duckling” (Andersen's Tale)
When one duck appears, hatching from eggs, ducklings, among them an ugly outwardly, ugly and absurd character is found. And besides, he was born later than everyone else. For all these shortcomings, he gets the nickname Ugly Duckling. An elderly duck, who knows everything, told the baby's mother that he really is not a duckling either: most likely a turkey! But our hero swam well enough, although all the inhabitants of the courtyard constantly tried to humiliate and offend him because of his plainness and clumsiness. Even her own mother took up arms against her own son, who seemed to her ugly. As a result, the Ugly Duckling was forced to flee from the yard to the swamp, where wild geese lived.
Continuation of a story
We continue to summarize. The ugly duckling experienced many adventures in the swamp. He meets wild geese, even tries to make friends. But hunters kill their comrades, and the hunter’s dog runs past the duckling. Our hero is upset: "I guess I'm so unattractive that even the dog does not want to eat me." At night, he flees from the swamp and comes to the hut, where an old woman, cat and chicken live. An elderly woman welcomes a duckling, but the chicken and cat begin to harass. And the Ugly duckling has to return to the swamp again. So all winter and he lived in the reeds.
Magic ending
In the spring, our hero sees on a lake of swans, whom he loved even earlier, he himself does not understand why. He tries to get to them and (lo and behold!) Sees his reflection in the water. It turns out that he also became a swan, young and beautiful. Next, the duckling joins his beautiful relatives.
This is a summary. The Ugly Duckling, Andersen's tale, tells us that hidden strength and inner beauty lurk in every person. And from the ugly duckling one day you can get a beautiful swan, you just need to believe in your own capabilities.
