Already in those ancient times, it was noticed that germination of wheat allows you to get a specific product, the use of which not only saturates a person, but also has healing properties. Nowadays, all these "instinctive" conjectures of our ancestors have been fully confirmed by scientific research. Germinating wheat is quite easy and cheap. At the same time, its nutritional value is multiplied. Independent germination of wheat implies the presence of such equipment: glass jars, trays, paper towels, thin cloth and elastic bands.
Wheat seeds germinate at room temperature. Most often, grains are germinated in the kitchen. Germination wheat is suitable for any, both soft and hard varieties. Only mature, whole, and undamaged grains are suitable for sprouting. First of all, the seeds are washed under running water. For this procedure, you need to use a sieve. Germination of wheat begins by soaking the seeds in water (up to 25 ° C) at night. The volume of water should exceed the volume of grains four times. The next step is to drain the water and rinse the seeds. Prepared seeds are placed in trays for or glass jars. Germinated seeds are used as food for reaching a sprout length of 1-1.5 cm. Such seedlings give a fresh flavor and density to any salads, stews and soups. They can be stewed and fried in vegetable oil.
Germination of wheat in trays:
1. Prepared seeds are poured onto a wet paper towel folded in several layers at the bottom of the tray and covered on top with wet paper also folded in several layers. The filled tray is placed in a dark and warm, ventilated cabinet.
2. A paper towel is periodically wetted to prevent the seeds from drying out.
3. After seed germination, the top paper towel is removed, and the bottom is constantly kept moist until the sprouts reach the desired length. For easy planting of sprouts, the trays are placed on the windowsill for a couple of days.
This method is not very suitable for wheat, so it is better to germinate it in another way, below.
Germination of wheat in glass jars:
1. Soaked seeds are poured into a jar and cover its neck with a thin cloth. The fabric is attached to the jar with an elastic band.
2. The can is laid on its side, and its bottom rises slightly. This position of the dishes facilitates drainage. The can is placed in a ventilated cabinet or other dark place with good ventilation.
3. At least once a day, the seeds are moistened with water, for which they remove the tissue and pour 250 ml of water into a jar. Wheat germinates best when it is 2-3 times wetted per day.
4. Having fixed the fabric on the neck, shake the jar of water and seeds slightly and drain the water through the fabric.
5. For easy gardening of the sprouts, dishes with them put out for one to two days on the windowsill.
6. The growth of the sprouts can be stopped by placing the jars in the refrigerator.
The best air temperature for seed germination is 22-24 ° C. Overgrown (2-3 cm) and green sprouts are not consumed. Wheat sprouts are stored in the refrigerator for no more than two days. Germinated wheat is used as food after rinsing (at least three times) under running water and drying. Rinsing is performed to remove the specific smell of sprouted seeds.
What is unacceptable when germinating seeds :
1. Reuse the water used for washing.
2. Use aluminum utensils for germinating seeds and preparing dishes from them.
3. Use a coffee grinder to grind seeds.
4. Eat darkened sprouted wheat.
5. Bring to a boil the water and milk used to prepare dishes from wheat germ.
