One of the largest and most famous museums in the capital of Kuzbass is the Museum of Local Lore. Despite the young history of the city and the region as a whole, this place deserves attention due to the permanent and temporary expositions, excursions and events. The Kemerovo Regional Museum of Local Lore entertains and educates visitors, every year new interesting events are organized here.
About the museum
It was founded in 1929, when the city of Kemerovo was called Shcheglovsky, and is the oldest in the city. He received the status of a regional museum in 1943. Unfortunately, during the Great Patriotic War, he lost many exhibits and became very impoverished, but continued to function. Hunger and the famous Siberian frosts could not but affect the museum.
In the 60s of the 20th century, the Kemerovo Regional Museum of Local Lore collected exhibits related to the fighting of the Second World War, in which the inhabitants of the region participated, and to the heroes of Kuzbass. The thematic exposition was displayed in 1975 in a separate building near the eternal flame, it was called "Kuzbass during the Great Patriotic War." We collected it in two months.
Today, this department of the museum tells visitors not only about 1941-1945, but also about the participation of the inhabitants of the region in other wars in the history of Russia.
Now the museum has many collections, temporary expositions, exhibitions and events. It is well technically equipped and provides visitors with additional services and master classes.
The history department offers to learn how to craft an earthenware vessel. In the nature department you can pay (100 rubles) to attend a master class in lepidomosaic and the manufacture of wire spider. For the same money you can get an excursion with virtual reality glasses.

- Exhibition of facts about the city "For the first time in Kemerovo." She will talk about the name of the city, the reasons for renaming it. This exhibition shows household items of residents, and the highlight of the program is a fragment of the first rails laid in Scheglovsk.
- Archaeological exhibition "The Return of the Dinosaur". Here, the visitor will see the skeletons and models of dinosaurs, the remains of which are found in the Kuzbass.
- Historical exhibition about weapons and armor, which was used in Ancient Russia "When the steel of swords rang."
- Zoological exposition "Exotic animals".
- "Spiders: living and poisonous." This exhibition will introduce mysterious and frightening creatures, in the museum you can watch them live.
- An exit panopticon "Our Homeland - Kuzbass". The exhibition shows the history of the Kuznetsk Territory from the period when the indigenous tribes lived here, and to this day also tells about the local "wonders of the world." It will be possible not only to look at the development of the Kuznetsk land, but also to feel like a participant in the events: conduct an ancient ritual, try yourself as a soldier - the defender of the Motherland or a working miner.
- The visiting astronomical exposition “Far and Near Space” will acquaint visitors not only with the history of outer space exploration, but also with everyday objects of astronauts, show food in tubes and arrange the ship from the inside.
In addition, there are many archival photos. The Kemerovo Regional Museum of Local Lore holds numerous events, festivals, excursions, including bus trips, conducts scientific activities and arranges expeditions.
Location and how to get
The exposition is located in three buildings, all of which are located in the historical center of the city not far from each other. You can get to them by all means of transport, on which the necessary stop is indicated - "Drama Theater".
- The Department of History of the Kemerovo Regional Museum of Local Lore is located at 51 Sovetsky Prospekt. To get into it, from the stop you need to turn to the theater and cross the road to the right. You can recognize the building by the adjacent kiosk with ice cream, the entrance is among the columns. Open from 10 to 7 pm, Monday and Sunday - weekends.
- The Department of Nature is located at 55 Sovetsky Prospekt, on the left side of the Drama Theater, if you stand facing it. It works from 10 am to 7 pm, one day off - Monday. You can learn the building of the Department of Nature of the Kemerovo Regional Museum of Local Lore by the famous cannons at the entrance.
- The Department of Military History is located at Pritomskaya Embankment, 1a. At the bus stop, stand with your back to the Drama Theater and walk along the Spring Street to the eternal flame and the monument to the workers of the rear. The first house on the left along the movement is the destination, it can be recognized by thematic reliefs.
