Planting seedlings

Not everyone knows how to sow seeds and how to grow seedlings at home, especially this is a difficult question for residents of apartments and those who do not have personal plots outside the hectic city. Everyone thinks they know how to grow seedlings, and for them it seems completely easy until the first failures and mistakes. To grow good and high-quality seedlings, you just need to know some gardening rules and secrets at which you will not be left without a good and plentiful crop.

Experienced summer residents prefer planting vegetables in the winter month - January, so that in spring, seedlings can be planted in greenhouses or on the site. But this is not always correct. It is believed that in those plants that have grown, the seedling stability and yield decreases. The most popular month in which knowledgeable gardeners plant their seedlings is March.

Planting seedlings of peppers, eggplant and some other vegetables - can be made in early March.

Onions and tomatoes are planted in mid-March, and cabbage at the end of the month.

In April, seedlings of crops that are not listed above are planted. On seed packages, as a rule, the optimum seeding time is indicated.

As you know, seedlings are planted in boxes or special containers. They should be capacious and spacious with holes at the bottom, and it is also preferable that it is a drawer made of wood, seedlings grow better in them. In small containers, the roots of the seedlings are interwoven as they grow into one large knot, and when you start to plant them in the ground, due to the damage received when they are pulled out, more than half of the plants die.

After the seedlings sprout, you should place it in a warm and bright place. If the plants receive a small amount of light, not sufficient for their further growth, the seedlings will be yellowish, weak, painful. The probability of obtaining a crop from such seedlings will be zero.

Planting seedlings is a very difficult task. Many put seedlings near the windows on the windowsills, but the light on them is not enough. In such conditions, additional lighting is needed:

  • when the first shoots appear; especially in the first few days after germination;
  • if the cloudy and rainy weather lasts for a long time;
  • many windows are on the shady side, so it is best not to place seedlings in such places.

The first few days for seedlings are the most important and therefore need additional and good light around the clock. In the following days, until the landing is necessary only - 15 or 16 hours a day.

In apartments, the microclimate is not very suitable for growing seedlings, therefore, in order to achieve the desired percentage of humidity, you just need to place any containers of water in the apartment and spray seedlings more often. Humidity should be 60 - 80 percent. If there is a greenhouse, then it must have an appropriate temperature. So, three external factors must be considered when growing seedlings: illumination, air temperature and humidity.

Seeds should not be planted densely, at a distance indicated on the bags. Properly make a pick for seedlings: after it has grown, it must be transplanted into more spacious containers in order to give the space necessary for further growth.

This moment is important and very necessary. If you don’t make a pick, then the seedlings will not be able to fully develop, and when transplanted into the ground, many roots will die from injury.

When picking, they usually pinch the tip of the root so that the lateral processes appear. This will make the plant stronger, and when transplanted into the soil, it is more likely to take root.

If you follow these instructions, your seedlings will always be of high quality, and you will get a big crop.
