To take measurements, you will need a centimeter tailor's tape. During measurements, you need to stand in a natural position. Those. if you are usually slouching, you should not straighten up and draw in your stomach too much, otherwise the measurements will be wrong, your clothes will sit worse or you will be mistaken in determining your sizes.
Before taking measurements, you must choose a well-fitting and comfortable underwear. Previously, it was recommended to wear custom-made clothes with the very linen that you wore during measurements. Now the tailor's craftsmanship has different standards, and the fabrics have become more elastic, so it is enough that the bra and panties do not add extra centimeters to your natural volumes. Or did not clean them.
It is best if someone measures you. It is rather difficult to determine, for example, the length of the back. Therefore, call an assistant and explain to him how to take measurements where you do not succeed.
When you build a pattern, all the necessary numbers are indicated in the description for it. Therefore, we will not dwell for a long time on what measurements happen at all. There are a lot of them. For some things, you may need very specific measurements. Our task is to explain how to take measurements correctly, and there are just general principles in this.
Circle measurements
The tape should not be pulled, on the contrary, it should lie slightly loose. When you encircle a circle with a centimeter, put two fingers under it. This is convenient to do in the place where you combine the beginning with the desired mark.
The circumference (girth) of the waist, chest, hips should be checked for horizontalness, especially if you have a large size. To do this, first measure the girdle with a cord, and lower the measuring tape from the line of the cord to the floor from the side, from the back, in front. If the numbers match, the girdle was correct, you can take measurements further.
Often the question arises of exactly where to apply the centimeter. The girth of the neck is always determined by the level of the seventh, most protruding vertebra. Other girths pass either through the widest or the narrowest place on the body (unless your figure is too disproportionate due to being overweight).
Since you can usually take off clothing sizes only by the circumference of the chest, waist, hips, this is easy to do on your own. Then look at the special tables. Female sizes in the system adopted in our country are calculated as half the circumference of the chest, i.e. for the 46th size of the exhaust gas = 90-92 cm, for 48 - 94-96, etc.
Vertical measurementsHere you most often have to seek help. But if nobody was around, use a full-length mirror. The length of the back is also measured from the 7th cervical vertebra. To correctly measure the length of the sleeve, you need to bend your arm slightly. All measurements for trousers are removed from the side.
Correct sequence
Results may vary depending on how you measure. Therefore, the order is very important. Start by determining the waistline. Then measure the length of the back, shoulder and width of the back. Then they move to the arm, measuring the length of the sleeve and grasping the shoulder, forearm, and wrist. Finish with measurements in front, specifying the circumference of the waist and figuring out the circumference of the hips, chest, neck.
