One of the most difficult maneuvers performed by a car driver is reversing. Even experienced motorists with great experience consider it one of the most dangerous, not to mention newcomers who find it difficult to drive a vehicle from an unusual viewing angle. The most common mistakes a novice motorist makes when reversing is to turn the steering wheel in the opposite direction, often ignoring the side mirrors, which often leads to minor accidents and sometimes pedestrian accidents.
So, in what cases is such a maneuver permitted? There is a basic rule for a driver reversing. The SDA states: a car moving in this way should not provoke an accident and create difficulties for the movement of other vehicles and pedestrians. If necessary, it is allowed to resort to the help of unauthorized persons.
In connection with the above, reversing is prohibited in places of increased likelihood of an accident: at intersections, in tunnels, at level crossings, at bridges, overpasses, at stops of public transport, on highways, at pedestrian crossings and with limited visibility.
One of the controversial issues today is reversing on a one-way road . Prior to the amendments to the Code of Administrative Offenses, such a maneuver was allowed to the nearest intersection, pedestrian crossing or other facility listed above. Currently, it is also not prohibited, but must comply with the following requirement: reversing must be safe, not
provoke traffic accidents and do not contradict traffic signs. Also, reversing is permitted in cases where the prevailing traffic situation, such as an obstacle detour or parking, forces it. The offender will face severe penalties - deprivation of a driverโs license for up to 6 months.
Improper reversing on two-way roads and in yards will cost you a fine of 100 rubles, and on the highway - from 300 to 500.
The real "headache" of an inexperienced motorist is parallel European parking. If it is performed incorrectly, you can easily damage the bumper of the car that โsupportsโ the rear, and sometimes even scratch the door in front of you. Of course, in both cases, you will be required to pay for the repair of damaged cars. In order not to get into such an unpleasant
situation, you need to follow simple rules: firstly, use three rear-view mirrors and, in the course of maneuvering, evaluate the current situation in them one by one; secondly, when
an other driver emits a
sound signal, stop immediately and get out of the car to assess the traffic situation, as the
sound signal is given to prevent an emergency. And the third, most important, rule: never rush in reverse, agree that itโs better to spend a few minutes on a thoughtful maneuver than wait a few hours for the traffic police because of a stupid oversight committed by negligence.
