How to calculate the cubature of a board: a description of the technique

Before starting the construction of the building, it is necessary to draw up its design estimate. This document indicates how much materials are needed for the work, as well as their cost. If the question arises of how to calculate the cubic capacity of a board by reading this article, you can get an answer to it.

Stacked Boards

Lumber: varieties and features of calculation

The quality and technical parameters of the product are affected by the wood species and the method of production of the specified building material. Boards come in two forms:

  1. Edged - lumber of the highest grade, which have the correct shape.
  2. Unedged - wood products whose lateral edges are not processed, therefore they contain bark. Builders use such boards for the construction of rough floorings and floors. Their main advantage is low cost in comparison with edged timber.

Before calculating the cubature of the board, it should be decided what type of product the individual parts of the building will be built from (for example, floors). It is easier to find out the volume of edged boards due to their correct shape. If it is necessary to calculate the cubature of the finishing parts (lining or timber), then in this case only the dimensions of the main part of the parts should be taken into account, that is, the dimensions of special ribs and grooves will not be taken into account.

To determine the number of boards in the cube, the craftsmen use a special formula, and unedged lumber will have to be calculated a little differently, since such wooden products do not have clear edges.

Formula for calculating trim boards

To determine the cubature of the product, you need to know the dimensions of the following indicators:

  • lengths;
  • width
  • heights.

If the dimensions are known, then they should be multiplied among themselves using a special formula that looks like this:

V = L xbxh, where:

  • L is the length of one board in meters;
  • b is the width of the product;
  • h is the height of the edged board.

Using this formula, you can easily find out the volume of one part. However, before calculating the cubature of the edged board, millimeters should be converted into meters, if necessary. If the dimensions of the part are 3000 x 150 x 22, then each of the indicators should initially be multiplied by 0.001, and then derive a formula, which in this case will look like this:

V = 3 x 0.15 x 0.022

As a result, it turns out that one board has a volume equal to 0.0099 m 3 (cubic meters). After that, you need to find out how many units of the product are stored in one cubic meter. For this, builders use a mathematical formula with which to divide 1 m 3 into the resulting volume of one wooden product. The calculation will have the following form:

1 / 0.0099 = 101.01 m³

If the question arises, how to calculate the cubature of the edged board, then it turns out that 1 m 3 contains 101 units (the value should be rounded up) of a wooden product, the dimensions of which were indicated earlier. Next, you just need to determine the number of lumber required for the construction of the building. Experienced builders recommend purchasing parts with a certain margin, since during the construction of the facility some products may deteriorate due to accidental damage.

Calculation of unedged boards

The shape of the mentioned product has the wrong proportions, since such lumber does not have a rectangular section. Unedged boards, as a rule, are used for the construction of temporary structures or rough floors.

Builders use several methods to determine the number of parts in one cubic meter. However, these indicators are difficult to establish, since it is difficult to accurately calculate the number of products that have irregular shapes. Before calculating the cubature of an unedged board, you should consider each of the methods in more detail in order to choose the most convenient one. There are such methods:

  1. Batch.
  2. Piece method.
  3. Sampling method.

In the first method, the boards should be put in a package and measure the required data. The next step is to determine the volume using the indicators that were obtained when taking the measurements. If the question arises, how to calculate the cubature of the board on the floor (draft), then this option gives a clear answer to it, but this is not the fastest way.

When using the piece method, you will have to use numbers (in meters), which you need to get taking into account the height and width of the unedged board. To calculate the average, you must first measure the minimum width of the product, and then the maximum. After that, add both numbers and divide by 2. In the same way, you should calculate the average height of the board. The final stage is to multiply the data obtained by the length of the part.

Builders use the sampling method if it is necessary to quickly calculate the cubic capacity of a large amount of lumber. What is the essence of this method? We need to take a few boards, and then make their calculation in the same way as with the batch version. The obtained indicators should simply be multiplied by the total number of products in the stack.

Finally

In any construction, lumber may be needed, so it is important to purchase them in the required quantity in order to safely complete the construction of the facility. However, for this it is necessary to be able to calculate the volume of products, therefore, the material described how to calculate the cubature of a board of two types: edged and unedged.
