Nylon screed: what is it

Any electrician will tell you that without the availability of additional equipment and additional materials, his work would be practically impossible. Take, for example, such a thing as a nylon screed. It seems that, at first glance, it is not so important. However, with its help, the work of an electrician is accelerated to some extent and its quality is improved.

So what is a nylon screed? This is an object that is primarily intended for cable bundle ties , but we'll talk about functionality a bit later. Initially, it is worth noting that nylon ties are created from polyamide or nylon. The main advantage of this material is its fire resistance. That is, in the case of high temperatures, the nylon screeds will not begin to melt. By the way, in another way, these ties are called cable clamps, or simply, clamps.

So what are cable clamps used for?

  • Firstly, they are used to fix the cable to the housing of the subscriber outlet. Such ties are usually bundled with the outlet itself.
  • They are also needed for fixing the cable on the so-called cable support structures.
  • Binding cable into bundles.
  • Fixing cables in outdoor conditions in order to lay them to the supporting cable.
  • Organization of all possible loops and cables located in the computer system unit.
  • A nylon screed is also necessary for fixing all kinds of cables on the cross.
  • Well, the last thing worth noting is the fixation of both information and power cables at the points of their entry into the junction box.

With functionality, perhaps that's all. Of course, cable clamps can be used for some other purposes, but to list all the possible options for their use in this case is simply impossible. And for the most part this makes no sense.

Now let's get to the design. The nylon screed is a fairly narrow and quite flexible strip, consisting, as mentioned above, of polyamide or nylon. On one side of the screed there is a special lock, and its inner side has protrusions with teeth. When tightened, such protrusions prevent the lock from opening.

The length of the cable clamp can vary greatly. As a rule, the smallest screeds are 60 millimeters long. At the same time, there are those who reach this same length about one and a half meters. By the way, if necessary, nylon ties are connected without any problems.

As for the width, the spacing here may not be so significant. However, in this case, the importance of each millimeter is increasing. Indeed, the tensile load that the clamp can withstand directly depends on this. Thus, a screed with a width of 2.4 mm can withstand about 8 kg, and a screed with a width of 9 mm can hold already 80 kg.

Well, it must be said that there are two types of nylon screeds: disposable and reusable. Or, as they are properly called, non-opening and opening. It is worth noting that the use of the first option fully and fully justifies itself economically.
