Ceiling tile: types, properties, gluing

For decorating and decorating ceilings in residential and non-residential premises, various types of materials and technologies are used. Not all of them can be used in rooms with high humidity, for example, in the bathroom or in the kitchen. This primarily relates to wallpaper. If you do not have the opportunity to make false or suspended ceilings in these rooms, you can use more economical, but beautiful finishes, for example, ceiling tiles.

Ceiling tile is made of polystyrene. This material has several advantages:

  1. environmentally friendly, absolutely harmless to human health;
  2. water resistance: the tile can be used in a room with high humidity;
  3. insulating properties: polystyrene is an additional sound, moisture and heat insulation;
  4. an assortment of textures and colors allows you to realize almost any design idea;
  5. accessibility: the price of tiles allows you to use it even on a large area.

Depending on the manufacturing method, ceiling tiles are of three types:

ceiling tile

  1. Extruded.
  2. Injection.
  3. Pressed (stamped).

Extruded tile

Extruded tile is made of polystyrene tape. Its surface is absolutely smooth, which facilitates the maintenance of such a surface, it can be snow-white, colored or imitate natural materials, such as stone, wood or fabric. Extruded tiles always have edging, so on the ceiling it is divided into squares. A variety of assortments allows you to balance the different collections of this coating, which makes it unique in every home.

Injection tile

Injection tiles have a porous structure. Thanks to the special production technology, it turns out to be unusually strong and resistant to mechanical damage. On its surface there are no relief differences and patterns, therefore, with proper installation, the seamless ceiling tile forms a continuous canvas, which is subsequently to be painted.

Stamped tile

Stamped tiles are among the cheapest types of coatings: this is due to the inexpensive type of production, a small assortment of pattern and insufficient strength of the material. Therefore, its operation requires utmost care and caution, both during gluing and in future care. Despite these disadvantages, stamped ceiling tiles are quite in demand among consumers. With the right design approach (selection and configuration of different reliefs or unusual painting), you can also give it enough originality and originality.

Ceiling tile sticking

Installation of ceiling tiles does not require special skills, it is enough to familiarize yourself with the instructions and strictly adhere to it. No special surface preparation is also required: it is enough to clean the ceiling and slightly level it with plaster. If the base is plywood or chipboard, then the surface must be primed. A big plus of such a decorative coating is that it lays on almost any surface (the main thing is that it is fat-free, clean and dry), hiding a lot of defects.

If you use the same type of tiles, for example, stamped or injection, then start gluing from any place convenient for you, for example, from a wall. If an extruded tile with a pattern is used, then it is necessary to begin gluing from the composite center. To determine it, pull two ropes obliquely from corner to corner through the center of the room: the intersection will be the center.

Ceiling tile adhesive

Choosing glue for ceiling tiles is easy enough. The modern building materials market offers a wide range of this mixture. The main principle is that the base of the glue is aquabase, so the residues are easily removed with a damp cloth. The application of glue to the tile, as a rule, is shown on the instructions: usually it is a dashed line crosswise and continuous around the perimeter of the tile.

With proper gluing and operation, ceiling tiles will last a long time, delighting you with their original design and originality.
