The English proverb says: "There is no bad weather, there are bad clothes." Indeed, it is a pity to miss the opportunity to take a walk in the warm spring rain only because of the fear of getting wet. And although most people prefer to shelter from the rain at home, in a comfortable chair under a warm blanket, true romantics, taking umbrellas, will definitely go outside to enjoy the freshness of washed sidewalks, houses and trees. In order for such a walk not to lead to negative consequences in the form of a runny nose and pneumonia, it is very important to choose the right clothes, and this problem has long been solved for us by the good old Scot Charles Mackintosh.

Being a chemist and working in his laboratory, he once made a mistake, which later made him a great pioneer and forever imprinted his name in fashion history. Carrying out his next experiment, he accidentally stained the sleeve of his jacket with a solution of rubber. This event would have gone unnoticed if it had not been for the rain. Charles noticed that the fabric where it was stained wasnโt wet, while the rest of the clothes were soaking wet. This led the scientist to the idea of โโcreating waterproof fabric. He tried to soak his jacket completely with rubber and already in 1823 received a patent for the material from which clothes were sewn, in particular, raincoats, which got their name in honor of the inventor - mac.
Moisture-proof clothing was very popular among the not very picky public: fishermen, sailors and soldiers. The civilian population was skeptical of rubberized clothing. Firstly, it had a pungent odor, secondly, it tanned in the cold and melted in the sun, thirdly, the seams passed water anyway. Not one decade passed, until the raincoat was improved, refined, took on its current appearance and gained immense popularity. However, Charles Mackintosh, unfortunately, did not see the triumph of his brainchild.
So, what is a mac and how does it differ from a regular raincoat? Mackintosh raincoat - clothes with a unique history and unshakable traditions of tailoring: always a
raglan sleeve and a turn-down collar, a loose cut and secret fastener for protection from wind and rain, a complete absence of a belt and buckles. The fabric is always waterproof, rubberized cotton.
The Mac immediately gained immense popularity, Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin gave it their preference. Many literary works by Russian and foreign writers mention the famous Macintosh cloak. Modern designers believe that he is the founder of the modern trench coat.
Mackintosh - the clothes are quite versatile, you can wear them with a business suit or with an informal style of jeans. The only thing you should think seriously about is shoes. Here itโs better to choose all the same strict shoes, without any frills, since the Mac raincoat is classic clothing, and you need to add it very carefully.
Today, a cloak of the same fabric is a symbol of the Mackintosh brand. Interestingly, workers at the Mackintosh factory in the Scottish city of Cumberland undergo a three-year internship before starting work on raincoats, which indicates a high demand for the quality of the products of this famous brand.
