Shtreyfling apple-tree: description of a high-yielding grade

The apple-tree variety “shtrefling” came to us from the Baltic states. If the plant is not in conditions of increased humidity of air and soil, this leads to a decrease in the size of the fruit, so in dry times it needs abundant and frequent watering. In addition, a tree needs a large amount of nutrients and proper agricultural technology. In this regard, it is considered the most demanding in comparison with other industrial varieties. Whatever it was (subject to proper care), the apple "shtrafling", whose photo is below, constantly gives a decent harvest of bright large fruits.

The fruiting period of the variety begins quite late. In addition, and productivity develops very slowly. The first single fruits appear in these trees at about the age of five. After another five years, the apple "Streifling" will begin to produce an average of 10 kg of apples per year. A large number of fruits (up to 8 tons per hectare) will spoil at the age of about 20 years. The highest yield is typical for 30-year-old trees. At this time, each of them can collect up to 300 kg of fruit.

Flowering of this variety starts about five days after the "anise". As for pollinators, they are most often "Antonovka" and "papier". The most intense fruit growth begins immediately after fertilization. It weakens in the month of July. Then it intensifies again in September. Apples hold fairly firmly on the branches and are green until August, after which characteristic touches begin to appear on them.

The apple tree "shtreyfling" can reach a height of up to eight meters. Moreover, the diameter of its crown reaches seven meters. Twigs attached almost at a right angle usually sag to the ground under the weight of the crop and foliage. This can greatly complicate the processing of wood under the crown. The latter is dense and has a rounded shape. From a large number of buds, many growth shoots are formed. Large leaves of the plant have a greenish-grayish tint and a rounded shape. The yellowish-green apples, reclaimed, acquire a yellow color with stripes. Their flesh has a pinkish tinge; it tastes good.

Compared to other varieties, the apple tree "streifling" looks very profitable in terms of resistance to diseases and pests. The leaves of the plant are less likely to be affected by scab, and its fruits are less likely to suffer from codling moth. Among the advantages of the variety should be attributed to its high resistance to frost. According to historical data, in all cold winters, this species suffered less than others. If the apple tree “shtrafling” still suffers from low temperatures in winter (this usually happens with the ends of annual long shoots), then the process of full recovery will not be so long. It should be noted that the vegetation period plays an important role for good wintering of the tree. Provided that it occurs at a moderate temperature and suitable humidity, representatives of the variety accumulate many important nutrients that contribute to wintering, which is painless for the plant.
