In urban apartments, hot water is supplied through centralized highways. Owners of private houses, when installing a hot water system, have to use special equipment. For example, it can be a double-circuit boiler. Such devices simultaneously heat water for the heating network and for supply to consumers. However, double-circuit boilers - the equipment is quite expensive and difficult to maintain. Therefore, most often, the owners of country houses use boilers for heating the water supplied to the kitchen and shower. The main features of such equipment are not too high cost and ease of installation.
What is an indirect heating boiler
It is these models that are most popular among owners of suburban private houses. Indirect heating boilers in low-rise residential buildings are mounted in combination with single-circuit inexpensive boilers. Their peculiarity is that they do not have their own heating element. Inside such boilers there is a coil through which hot coolant circulates from the home heating system. Due to this, in the tank of devices of this type, water is heated for the water supply network. That is, the design of such equipment is extremely simple.
Of course, for an uninterrupted supply of hot water in houses, indirect heating boilers must be connected correctly. The wiring diagram during the execution of such work must be followed exactly. This will make the operation of this type of equipment convenient and safe in the future.
Types of indirect heating boilers
At the moment, in private homes, two main types of such equipment can be used: with and without integrated control. Boilers of the first variety in their design have a built-in temperature sensor. The supply of hot water from the heating system to such a coil turns on / off automatically. Such boilers are used in combination with boilers that do not have a control system. Mounting devices of this type is nothing complicated. When installing such a boiler, you just need to connect the supply and return lines of the heating system, as well as the pipes of the water supply network, to the corresponding outputs. Then you can fill the tank.
The second type of devices is used in private homes simultaneously with boilers equipped with a control system. Installation of equipment of this type is somewhat more complicated.
Use in conjunction with an automated unit: features
It is this scheme of connecting an indirect heating boiler to a boiler in private homes that is most often used. In this case, before performing strapping, a temperature sensor is installed on the device through the hole in its housing. Then it connects to the desired output of the boiler. It is allowed to connect boilers to the heating units of the heating system of any kind: gas, solid fuel, electric.
Of course, the temperature of water heating in such devices never exceeds t of the coolant in the home network. Indeed, it is up to such parameters that the coil will warm up in the boiler. In most cases, the water temperature in the tank of such equipment is approximately 5 ° C lower than in the heating system highways.
Connecting an indirect heating boiler: basic wiring diagrams
There are only two principles for tying such devices with boilers:
In the first case, the entire coolant of the heating system is driven through the coil of the device. Heating in this case takes very little time. When using the second technique, only a part of the heat carrier is directed to the boiler coil. In this case, the water in the tank is heated for a long time.
Most often, in private homes, the technology of connecting boilers with the priority of heating hot water is still used. This allows you to make life in a country house more comfortable. In this case, the water heats up faster, the insert of the boiler does not affect the operation of the heating system itself in any way. However, when using such a scheme, it is important to choose both types of equipment correctly. When using this technique, the boiler should have greater productivity than the boiler (by about 25-30%).
What equipment can still be used
In addition to the temperature sensor, home owners who decide to install a boiler should purchase:
expansion tank;
shut-off ball valves;
three-way valve;
check valves.
An expansion tank is usually installed in the immediate vicinity of the boiler. It should be selected so that its volume is equal to about 10% of the capacity of the indirect heating device itself.
Shut-off ball valves in the boiler piping are necessary so that home owners have the opportunity to turn off, for example, a three-way valve or circulation pump at any time and repair or replace them.
Check valves are usually installed on the supply pipes. These elements will subsequently prevent the occurrence of a counterflow, which will make the operation of the boiler as convenient as possible.
The three-way valve in the boiler piping is used in conjunction with a temperature sensor. Upon receipt of the latest information about a decrease in water t below a predetermined value, this element is activated and redirects the coolant from the heating system to the coil of the indirect heating device.
Connection technology for a boiler with a pump step by step
In such networks, the binding of indirect heating boilers is usually carried out as follows:
behind the circulation pump, a three-way valve crashes into the feed pipe;
a temperature sensor is screwed onto the boiler sleeve;
one of the outputs of the three-way valve is connected to the inlet pipe (from the heating system) of the boiler;
a tee crashes into the return line;
coolant outlet from the boiler coil is connected to the tee;
a valve is mounted behind the tee;
an expansion tank crashes into a hot water pipe near the tank.
In systems with forced coolant flow, this is the best way to connect an indirect heating boiler. The connection diagram of such equipment in networks with a pump is presented below.
Features strapping in gravity systems
In such networks, the boiler is supposed to be mounted above the radiators. In heating systems without a pump, the binding of indirect heating devices is as follows:
to the coil, using pipes larger than in the diameter heating system, connect the feed from the boiler;
the heating system feed is cut into the section formed between the boiler and the boiler;
in the interval between the resulting branch and the boiler, a thermostatic head with an autonomous sensor is mounted;
connect the boiler and boiler with a return pipe;
embed the return pipe of the cooled coolant from the radiators into the return pipe;
When using such a scheme for connecting an indirect heating boiler to the boiler, at the final stage, an expansion tank is mounted on the return line.
What is a recirculation system and what is it for?
In a fairly large area of country cottages, consumers in the water supply system can be located at a considerable distance from the boiler. In this case, people living in the house have to wait a long time when the heated water reaches the tap. To solve this problem in country cottages a recycling system is used. In this case, a small pump is additionally included in the network.
Harness with recirculation system
The connection diagram of an indirect heating boiler with recirculation in private homes is usually used as follows:
next to the consumer, a tee crashes into a pipe with hot water;
a pipe joins the tee;
at the other end, the line is connected to the boiler through the recirculation pipe available to it;
near the boiler at the nozzle, the pump is turned on in the circuit.
When using such a scheme, the water between the boiler and the consumer will not subsequently stagnate and, accordingly, cool.

In such units, water can be heated both from the heat carrier of the heating system, and from electricity. Part of the design of models of this type are heating elements. This allows residents to use hot water not only during the heating season, but also in the summer. In the warm season, heating in such boilers is carried out at the expense of the heater. Tying devices of this type do exactly the same as conventional ones. At the final stage, boilers of this variety are connected to the mains via an RCD.
How to tie two boilers
Sometimes in country houses or apartments, two such devices are installed. This is done in the case, for example, if, in addition to the old device, the performance of which for some reason was not enough, a new one was purchased. The connection diagram of two indirect heating boilers is usually used in series.
Electric circuit
Boilers of indirect heating from a regular household network of a 220 V house work. Wiring to such devices is most often pulled separately. It is allowed to connect such units to a common network. But before that, you need to make sure that the latter is able to withstand the power of the device.
It is believed that with a device power of up to 3.5 kW, wiring for it should use a three-core cross-section of at least 2.5 mm 2 . In the electrical circuit for connecting an indirect heating boiler of such power, two-pole machines with a rated current of 16 A should be used
In some cases, water heaters can connect to the network at home and simply through a wall outlet. Such an element for devices of this type must be selected with a degree of protection IP44. To connect in this way, only boilers up to 3.5 kW are allowed.
Most popular models
Thus, we have found out how the indirect heating boiler can be connected in certain cases. Connection schemes, depending on the type of heating system installed in the building, such devices can be used different. However, the methods described above are very well suited for the installation of boilers of almost any brand sold in Russia.
Most of the devices of this type currently available on the domestic market are of good quality, easy to install and operate. But the most popular brands of such equipment in our country at the moment are:
Features of connecting Baksi boilers
Water-heating devices of this brand are very popular in Russia today. All models of Baksi units are supplemented by a recirculation pipe and a heating element, and therefore are simply ideal for installation in large cottages. To connect the indirect heating boiler “Baksi”, the circuit must be used strictly provided by the manufacturer (see the instructions attached to the unit).
During the connection, it is recommended that you also use the proprietary insert kit from Baksi. This manufacturer gives a guarantee for its equipment for two whole years.
Connecting Drazice Models
Boilers of this brand are supplied to the domestic market by the Czech company of the same name. The heat exchanger of such models is able to withstand the temperature of the heating medium of the heating system up to 110 ° C. If desired, the owners of such a unit can independently set the necessary parameters for heating water in the water supply network. To connect the indirect heating boiler "Drazhitsa" the standard scheme is used.
Models "Proterm"
The thermostat of equipment of this brand is set to a temperature of water heating at 65 ° C. If desired, home owners can change this setting to a more suitable one. The connection diagram of the Proterm indirect heating boiler is also used conventional. For connections when installing devices of this type, it is allowed, among other things, to use special flexible hoses. They are supposed to be mounted in such a way that they are protected from chemical and mechanical damage.
Heat accumulator
The connection schemes for indirect heating boilers Drazice, Proterm, and Baksi are used in private homes very simple. But often in such buildings, units of this type have to be mounted in a complex not only with boilers, but also with heat accumulators. The main purpose of such devices is to save fuel or electricity. Heat accumulators are able to accumulate thermal energy unclaimed at a given moment in time and give it at the right time.
Connecting boilers to boilers with heat accumulators allows you to make the supply of hot water to consumers in the house uninterrupted, even during peak periods. This, of course, increases the comfort of living in the building. The connection diagram of the indirect heating boiler to the heat accumulator and solid fuel boiler is presented in the figure above.
