It happens that the pump station does not turn off . The reasons for this phenomenon will be discussed in detail in our article. What is a pumping station? This is a complex consisting of a pump, a storage tank, as well as a large number of small elements - connecting tubes, hoses, fittings, etc. But it so happens that sometimes the station works continuously. What may be the reason for this behavior will be described below. First, let's look at the general causes of the malfunction.
The main causes of damage to the pumping station
And now let's look at the reasons why the pumping station for the home does not turn off. Many owners of suburban real estate, in order to provide themselves with water, drill wells. They mounted an electric pump. It is also worth noting that sometimes pumping stations pump water from ordinary wells.
This, on the one hand, is good, since you do not need to drill too deep a well. With the help of the station it is possible to automate the process of supplying water to housing as much as possible.
Pump station fault list
But such an autonomous system sometimes breaks down for the following reasons:
- Significant decrease in water level in a well or well.
- Destruction of the filter on the incoming pipe or its failure.
- The whole system loses its tightness.
- One or more parts of the pump are out of order.
- Ejector clogged.
- The inlet of the pressure switch is clogged or the entire device is out of order.
Next, we will examine in more detail all these causes of breakdowns in order to know what needs to be done in a particular case.
Water level drop in a well (well)
This is the most common reason why the pumping station does not turn off. At the same time, water practically does not enter the storage tank. Such a malfunction is especially often observed in cases when water is drawn from shallow wells or wells. The reason is that the groundwater level is falling. Usually this happens in the summer, when the air temperature is high, significant evaporation occurs. If there are rivers and lakes nearby, look at how they have changed. If there is a decrease in the water level in them, then the groundwater will also fall below.
As we have already noted, such a problem is more relevant for cases when water is drawn from shallow sources (up to 10 meters). In the event that the pump has nowhere to take water, a deeper well will have to be drilled. In some cases (when there is enough depth) you just need to lower the inlet pipe.
Level drop in the pump: a special case
But it can happen that the level drops in the pump itself, then water intake is impossible. If this happened, then unscrew the bolt provided for this purpose, fill the water through the hole formed. After that, it is necessary to start the pumping station and wait for the pressure to build up. To speed up the process, it is necessary after a short start to stop the station, fill in the fluid, tighten the bolt and restart the motor.
Inlet filter clogged
If the pumping station for the house does not turn off, you need to look for the reason not only in the drop in the liquid level, but also in the pump itself. In particular, in the intake pipe - a special filter is placed on it. It should be noted that in water you can find a huge number of different particles - clay, silt, sand, if they get into the pumping station, then its elements will wear out. Therefore, a filter is installed at the inlet - it is in it that all the dirt accumulates, then it does not get into the system. As a result, such a small element can significantly increase the resource of the pumping station.

But sometimes the incoming pipeline breaks - in this case the station will also constantly work without shutting down. And this, by the way, is a big load on all its components. If the filter becomes clogged or the pipe breaks, it is necessary to eliminate these breakdowns as soon as possible. If the filter is clogged, then it must be cleaned. There is a desire - put a new one, it will last much longer than the old one. Then, as in the previous case, it is necessary to unscrew the special bolt, pour water through the hole and start the motor. Bolt, of course, tighten before starting.
Air suction and getting into the pump
In the event that the pumping station stops turning off and the water level is normal and the filter is clean, you need to look for a breakdown further. As we already mentioned, the level may fall directly in the station. As a rule, in this case, the liquid flows from one or more places. If water flows from the tap, then you will notice it right away. But it can go through a hole in any other area. Therefore, if the pump works without stopping, you need to check all sections of the pipeline for leaks.
At the same time, you need to be very careful, first of all, you need to examine the joints of all the pipes in close proximity to the station. And then move on to the distant "corners." If cracks are found on the pipes, they can be repaired using a special adhesive tape. But such a measure is temporary, it is recommended to change the entire worn-out area.
What other leaks may appear?
If there is a leak at the threaded connection, then turn off the pump station. Then apply a little tow or some other sealing compound to the thread. If necessary, replace the rubber ring or paronite gasket. This must be done if low quality pipes are used in the design. Especially when the rubber o-ring has a diameter larger than the pipe itself.
Sometimes fluid flows from cracks in the flange, which attaches to the hydraulic accumulator (accumulator). In this case, it is necessary to remove the flange, weld the crack and mount it in place. If you wish, of course, you can install a new one - it is up to you. Be sure to use soft sealants when screwing elements onto the thread. They will allow you to get rid of the appearance of leaks.
Check valve failure
Quite often, the causes of leaks are a damaged check valve installed on the inlet pipe. Using this device, fluid is retained through the dirt that has accumulated during operation. In this case, the station pumps the liquid to the minimum pressure level, and then starts again. The permanent operation of the station can be observed at night and at a time when all water consumers are turned off. And the pumping station does not turn off, what if it happened at night? Disconnect it from the power supply and repair it as soon as possible.
Destruction of the gasket or ejector
You need to draw your attention to one feature. Simple suction-type pumping stations are capable of taking water from a depth of no more than 10 meters. But stations with an ejector can take water from a much greater depth - up to 45 meters. But only for the high-quality supply of water you have to install two pumps, the total efficiency increases by about 35%.
Damage to the ejector is a rather serious problem. It is much easier to repair elements located on the surface. To replace or carry out repairs, you will need to pull the entire structure out of the well. Then clean it of all impurities, sand. The nozzle must also be cleaned of all accumulated dirt. After that, collect the entire structure, lower it back into the well.
Impeller destruction
Why the pumping station does not turn off yet? The reason may be due to the fact that the impeller is destroyed and becomes worthless. Quite often, wear on pump parts causes the entire system to not shut off. There is an impeller in the power unit - it is it that creates the pressure of the liquid. But if sand or any other abrasive gets on it, then destruction will begin. And given that some manufacturers install plastic impellers in pumping stations, the damage can be critical. It is much better if the impeller is made of light alloy.
But still, even if the impeller is made of metal, the material will collapse. Abrasive particles enter the system, there is a significant wear of all elements without exception. This is due to the fact that the specialist who drilled the well is incompetent in this area. He incorrectly selected the mesh for catching sand or did not install a filter on the inlet pipe of the station. It should also be noted that the particles have different sizes. And they can be absorbed even through a filter (very fine grains).
If the relay on the fitting is clogged
In the event that the pumping station does not turn off for a long time, the cause of this behavior may be a malfunctioning relay. In this case, the engine runs continuously, without stopping. Automation was initially set up so that the work of the entire station was as clear as possible. But as soon as the water level in the well or well decreases, a small amount of air enters the intake system.
In this case, the automation begins to function incorrectly. You have to move the incoming pipe below, fill it with water, restart the station. It is the relay that allows you to automate the operation of the entire station. And if there was any change (for example, it clogged), then the work immediately changes.
Relay malfunction
It is also worth noting that the relay can directly cause a breakdown of the entire station. In this case, the pumping station does not turn off automatically. The motor in this case does not turn on or is constantly working due to the spring in the relay being damaged. It is necessary in order to regulate the groups of contacts that turn the pump station on and off from the power source.
The most common causes of relay failures lie in the spring. Accumulation of rust or various oxidations can occur on it. At the same time, it ceases to fulfill its functions, power contacts are closed. If you decide to disassemble the relay (and if it was correctly configured), then it will be enough to clean all the contact groups. If necessary, change the spring. Of course, the best way out is to install a new relay.
Pressure switch setting
And now let's look at the last fault, after which the pump station does not turn off. The reasons for its appearance lie in the fact that the adjustment of the working pressure is incorrectly made. There are special nuts on the relay, which adjust the working pressure. On the device there are designations "+" and "-".
Accordingly, in the first case, increase the range, in the second - decrease. This is how you adjust only the minimum pressure value, while changing only the operating range. The maximum pressure value remains unchanged.
To summarize
That's all, now you know about all the failures of the pumping stations. Please note that the sooner you fix the breakdown, the longer the equipment will last. Itβs not very good when the pump rotates dry without water. This leads to the fact that it is destroyed. An electric motor when exposed to a constant load will quickly fail. One or more windings can easily burn out. And rewinding an electric motor is not much cheaper than buying a new one.
Of course, it is much easier to eliminate a problem such as a drop in water level than to repair an incoming pipeline. But if you diagnose the entire system, you need to carefully consider everything. And threaded connections, and pipe surfaces for cracks, and the condition of the impeller. It is recommended that at least once a year a routine inspection of all components of the system be carried out with the replacement of failed elements. Only in this case you will get rid of unexpected breakdowns.
