Bright holiday, so fire is a must. Blazing torches are lit on both sides of a long path sprinkled with gravel. This path leads directly to the pond. The black surface of the pond glistens, reflecting the trembling torch lights in its waters. Slightly cool, or is it a chill because the darkness is thickening around? But out of the darkness a boat decorated with ribbons and balls appears, then another, third ... On each of them there is a footman with a torch in his hand. A motley-dressed crowd of guests takes their places, and the procession glides along the mirror surface of the pond. From somewhere comes the beautiful music of
stringed instruments. Boats stop in the middle of the lake and freeze for a moment.
A flash of light, and from the darkness a brightly lit fairytale castle appears, from which a light path stretches to the boats. The music plays louder, fireworks flare up, and the guests freeze with delight, and the boats silently keep their way to the castle of Prince Sheremetyev.
Such enchanting performances met amazed guests at the Sheremetev estate in Kuskovo near Moscow. The prince had a theater, and when guests stepped on the path leading to the castle, serf actors and actresses began to play skits, although the grandiose performance was ahead on the main stage in the garden. The word extravaganza comes from the French "fairy" (feerie from fee) - a sorceress. Therefore, it is logical to assume that extravaganza is magic or a magical, fabulous spectacle that evokes vivid emotions of its participants and spectators.
