This beautiful shrub is familiar to all gardeners, and not only to them. Poetry and songs are written about lilacs, because the beauty and romance of the bush goes well with lyricism and love. This plant pleases a person with its flowering and fragrant smell since the beginning of summer. The most important thing is that the lilac is surprisingly beautiful and decorative. When to plant it depends on the climatic zone. It is wonderful if the flowering of one variety is replaced by the flowering of another. There are up to 30 species of shrubs, and they are widespread from southern Europe to northeast Asia, the Himalayas, and Japan. And the middle strip boasts several species with different flowering periods.
Persian lilac
The homeland and the history of the origin of this genus are still a mystery. Some breeders are of the opinion that this species is a hybrid, but it is not known for certain. It has been growing for quite some time in Afghanistan and Iran. This is a sprawling shrub with thin arched branches. In height, it can reach three meters. Its differences from the common lilac are in later flowering, loose panicle inflorescence, an unusual odor, lanceolate-pointed leaves. There is a white and red lilac. When to plant depends on the climatic zone of your region. However, the bush is not winter-hardy. It grows well to Moscow, to the north it already requires additional warming. It tolerates drought, is not afraid of haircuts and transplants. It is used in landscape design for decoration and landscaping of the south of Russia and in southern countries.
Favorite lilac. When to plant?
For planting any kind of lilac , the beginning of autumn is considered the best time; trees planted in the spring take root much worse. The biological characteristics of the shrub make the lilac go to rest quite early. Therefore, lilacs, if planted in the summer, also take root very well, only you need to save an earthen lump.
Choose a place protected from the wind, well lit by the rays of the sun until noon at least. In the shade, an adult plant blooms poorly, and a young bush lags behind in growth. Flooded in spring low areas unsuitable for planting. Groundwater should lie no higher than 1.5 meters.
If you decide to plant lilacs, when to plant and on what soil, you need to know in advance. In a poor soil, sandy and clogged pit, dig a large one, at least 100 x 100 x 100 cm. On fertile soil, the pit is sufficiently halved.
Add 15 kg of humus to the middle pit, compost soil, a kilogram of bone meal, about 300 g of wood ash are also suitable. Mix everything well. The soil is ready. Now you should wait until the lilac takes root. When to plant a shrub? This is best done in the evening or in cloudy weather, so that the scorching sun does not harm the weakened plant. The annual shoot is shortened by three buds, bad roots are cut off. The seedling is placed on a hill of land inside the pit and is covered with fertile soil. Now you need to water it abundantly and mulch it with humus or foliage by five centimeters. For planting, it is best to buy lilacs in specialized stores or nurseries. The bush will be healthy, which will help the plant to take root well and begin to bloom quickly.
