Damper tape (purpose and use)

Damper tape
Damper tape, which is also called compensation or edge, is used to fill compensation (temperature) and dilatometric seams of various types of structures of bulk, industrial and warm floors. It is designed to isolate noise, eliminate vibration transmission, thermal insulation between the floor and the wall. Since the damper tape includes a filler, which remains elastic for a long time, it is suitable for compensating for the floor stress arising from changes in its temperature, which is accompanied by compression or expansion. Damper tape for floor screed (bulk mixture) is indispensable. It prevents its cracking during drying and promotes the acquisition of strength.

Damper tape for underfloor heating
Damper tape is made of high quality foam polyethylene . It has a so-called “protective apron”, which is designed to seal the gap between the surfaces and the tape. It also protects it from the effects of various building mixtures. Such a tape has a low thermal conductivity and a high level of moisture and sound absorption. Damper tape is a durable and economical material. It is often used to seal cracks, seal joints. This consumable does not deform, does not rot, and is not exposed to mold fungi.

Damper tape for screed
Damper tape is mounted in different ways, it all depends on the purpose of its use. Most often it is used to install underfloor heating. Since the concrete screed of such a coating has an expansion coefficient of about 0.5 mm / m, with its construction it is necessary to prevent any possibility of cracking and pressure on the walls. In this case, its installation begins with laying the damper tape along the walls of the entire room. It plays an important role as a compensator. The cuts on it should be directed up (to facilitate tearing), and the film - down (towards the floor). Also, this tape is laid along other architectural elements of the room, such as columns. If the room area is very large, it is necessary to provide for the installation of additional expansion joints. This tape is placed so that its upper edge protrudes slightly beyond the floor level. After laying the floor materials, the protruding part is cut off. Upon completion of installation, excess damper tape is torn off along the notch, and its visible part is covered with skirting boards. This consumable building material provides excellent floor insulation, reducing heat through walls.

Since the damper tape for the warm floor is made of high-quality polyethylene foam, it is safe for human and animal health. With the correct operation of warm floors, its service life is practically unlimited. When using this material, it should be borne in mind that during “linear expansion” of the screed, the square of the room on the first layer of tape should not be more than 10 m. If this area is larger, it is necessary to provide additional density at the joints. When buying this consumable, you should pay attention to the presence of a special “scale”, which facilitates cutting off surpluses that exceed the level of screed.
