Each settlement has a certain symbolism, namely a flag and coat of arms. The official symbols of this locality appeared less than twenty years ago. So, the coat of arms of Izhevsk was created and approved in 1997 by decision of the City Council. The authors of the project are Sergey Bekhterev and Nikolay Bykov.
The current emblem did not immediately become the official symbol of Izhevsk. Many artists offered their work to participate in the competition. Basically, the famous Izhevsk plant was placed in the center of the coat of arms. Other options were often too complex, overloaded with elements and ornaments.
