Electric saws: what are their advantages over gasoline models?

Each happy owner of a house in a suburban or rural area is well aware of all the difficulties that may lie in wait when it becomes necessary to “curb” the overgrown trees on the site. As a rule, gasoline tools are used to solve such a problem, but is it possible to use electric saws, which are much cheaper to operate than their “colleagues” in operation? Despite a somewhat biased attitude towards them, they are successfully used by many owners.

Unfortunately, the negative attitude towards them is largely due to the fact that such models are not designed for continuous operation for at least any long time. Of course, a professional tool of this class can work longer, but the difference with household varieties is still calculated in minutes. So the idea of using electric saws for professional felling is unconstructive in nature.

These devices differ in the typical chain pitch: 0.325 dm, 0.375 dm and 0.404 dm. The higher this indicator, the faster you can cut even the thickest tree trunk. However, if you understand the technology of sawing, you will probably prefer a chain with a smaller pitch, since it will allow you to get a clean and accurate cut, even if it takes more time.

Conventional electric saws can develop power up to 2.1 kW. Recently, varieties with a longitudinal arrangement of the engine have appeared. By the way, it is precisely such saws that need to be chosen by professional carpenters and joiners, since working with this tool “on weight” is very convenient. In particular, you will clearly appreciate the advantages of a longitudinal arrangement during the construction of a house.

Unlike gasoline, electric saws are extremely sensitive to improper chain tension. If you pull it, then the working tire will quickly overheat. Needless to say, this is fraught with the failure of the entire saw, not to mention the rapid wear of the teeth. If it is tightened badly, then it is even more dangerous: sudden jamming of a tire in a tree with subsequent chain breaking badly affects the health (and number) of fingers. Of course, normal electric saws are always equipped with protective covers and an engine brake, but they will not protect against a break.

By the way, there is no need to "be led" to the exhortations of sellers who are persistently trying to hand you a saw with manual tension adjustment (without using tools). On the basis of practical use, builders came to the conclusion that such a mechanism is rather capricious and is poorly suited for everyday use.

After listing the main disadvantages that an electric saw on a tree may surprise you with, we will move on to listing its advantages.

  • Firstly, sockets are almost everywhere.
  • Power tools can be freely transported by public transport.
  • Given the complete absence of exhaust gases, it can be used even in a residential area.
  • There is no preparation for work: after connecting to the outlet, you can immediately start sawing.
  • Even mobility is no longer an obstacle, since in recent years a large number of cordless tools have appeared.

Thus, a manual electric circular saw or chain saw will become your faithful and reliable assistant in the household.
