There are various rumors about who the Goths are, which are sometimes distorted. The problem is that most people who try to judge the Gothic subculture see only external attributes. Talk goes about walking in cemeteries, mystical rituals, aesthetics of death and makeup. However, few tried to look into the essence of the phenomenon. Goths are not an external stylization. You can wear black clothes, play death, take a mysteriously silent position, but at the same time have nothing to do with the Gothic movement. Those who only repeat the external features of the Gothic image - pseudo-Goths.
It would be wrong to associate this movement with gloomy music alone. Not only representatives of this subculture listen to Gothic. A real goth is always in the soul and thoughts. The Goths, whose subculture began to develop at the end of the last century, are people for whom not only the values of this world are alien, but partly this world itself. However, one should not evaluate a person only in the context of cultural identity. Despite the fact that these people (most often teenagers) wear the same clothes and have similar interests, each of them has a separate personality with their own problems. The same can be said about emo. Goths and emos are in a rather tough confrontation, however, both of them and others encounter similar problems on their way.
The difference between them is in perception and how to respond to difficulties. To answer the question of who the Goths are, one must look not at the attributes, but at the images that dominate this environment. These are not only images of death and demons. Through all that is connected with the life of a goth, one theme runs through the red thread - loneliness. Goth teens are maximalists and romantics to a greater extent than their peers. Many of them feel deeper, most have high intelligence. Goths at a young age begin to think about those things that most classmates do not care about.
Misunderstanding by peers makes normal communication between them and the Goth impossible. This dooms him to loneliness and the search for like-minded people. Even the Goths cannot always be alone, because they remain people, while people are quite sensitive. Parents, having learned that their child is Goth, start looking for information about who the Goths are. And they receive information about satanic rituals, suicides, various sects. As a result of incorrect information, they do not help the child, but only worsen his condition. In schools, representatives of this subculture also do not find understanding from teachers. They are advised to wash and change clothes. Such recommendations only harden the teenager. There is a desire for death, or better - the end of the world.
The Goths should be treated differently. This is a subculture of idealists and romantics, of whom there are very few today. Almost the whole world is seized with a desire for material prosperity and success. It contributes little to poetry and exalted thoughts. Goth, who died for a world ruled by practicality and lies, lives in his own world. In that ideal world, he is more alive than most other people. He can sincerely feel, live a full life and fulfill his dreams. As the crowd scurries around in pursuit of the illusions of the outside world, Gotu remains his inner world.
Among the ready are many talented people. In general, they are all quite creative personalities. With the coming of age, some of them take off their usual makeup and clothes. However, this does not mean that a person is changing his worldview. Adult life leaves its mark on the individual. But youth leaves a deeper mark. Who are the goths? These are those who do not become like others, do not go with the flow and have their own view of the world. Goth values are not like the values that most people support.
