Quite often on the Internet you can come across questions from players about how to minimize the game to a window. Unfortunately, other users do not always correctly understand what a person needs, and begin to advise various key combinations that simply minimize the game to the taskbar. But what if you need to play in the window? After all, this mode is very convenient if you need to quickly switch between applications, for example, if you play at work, and the boss didn’t come to the office very on time ...
Built-in functions
Many game developers create their applications taking into account the wishes of the user, focusing on our needs with you. Competition in the gaming industry encourages creators to refine themselves so that the user is comfortable, and he chooses a product of a particular company. What is this going to?
You can minimize the game to the window by the built-in functions of the application itself. Despite the difference in program interfaces, you need to do about the same things:
- Go to settings. This can be a button with the same name in a single player game or (most often) an image of a gear in online games.
- There, go to the video tab (graphics).
- You should be interested in screen resolution settings. Often, just next to them is a switch that is responsible for launching the application in a window.
- We put a tick in front of the "In the window" option.
Combinations
How to make a game in a window, if, rummaging in the settings, you did not find anything. Most old games support a certain key combination, after clicking on which the game will switch to window mode. However, it works for many modern games. There are several options for combinations:
- Alt + Enter
- R. Alt + R. Shift + Enter.
In theory, after clicking, your application should go into windowed mode, but if this did not happen, then there are some other options how to minimize the game to a window.
Label
Try to play with the shortcut of your toy, which is located on the desktop. To do this, right-click on it and select the "Properties" item. Further, in the "Shortcut" tab, we are interested in the line in which the path to the executable file is indicated. For example, "C: ... / game. Exe." Now at the end of this line you need to add one of the following expressions:
No quotation marks or other punctuation marks. If you are lucky, then after starting the game through this shortcut, double-clicking it will load in windowed mode. If this does not help, you have the last, radical way to minimize the game to the window.
For the desperate
Of course, a lot depends on the goals, why you need to run the game in a window, and on the capabilities of a personal computer. How to minimize the game to the window? The last method assumes that it is important for you to have a program running in the window, and the computer hardware is quite powerful. True, this is not entirely "in the window." What do you need for this?
- The first thing to download is a virtual machine, for example, Microsoft VirtualBox.
- Then, after installing it on a computer, in the settings of this program you should allocate free space on your hard drive for creating a virtual hard disk. What it is? This is the space in memory completely cut off from the rest of the disk. Thus, you can do whatever you want with it, without fear of damaging the rest of the data. It is recommended that you allocate approximately 100 GB.
- Install the operating system that best suits your game on this virtual disk . Do not forget about the driver. If it is an online game, reconnect.
- Install the game on a new "axis".
- You can run. Now your application works "in a window". You can minimize the virtual machine with the click of a mouse button. And if you do not play online, the game will automatically be paused (frozen) by VirtualBox.

What else is convenient for this method? By setting up a network between your PC and the virtual OS, you can run several instances of applications on the same computer, which in normal cases will warn you that "Another copy of the application is already running."
