Sights of Ussuriysk: photo, description

The city of Ussuriysk arose on the site of the ancient city of Suipin - the administrative center of the eponymous province of the Jurchen empire, founded in the 12th century AD. On its territory, many interesting historical monuments, as well as unique natural sites, have been preserved.

Ancient and modern sights of Ussuriysk attract many tourists to this city, including from China and the regions of the Russian Federation.

Arbat

You can see the main attractions of Ussuriysk within one walk by going to the historic city center. Residents call it Arbat, by analogy with the famous Moscow street, and it is there that modern Ussuri youth prefers to arrange meetings and dates. Once in this area of โ€‹โ€‹the city, you can see many 1- and 2-storey buildings built in the late 19th - early 20th century.

Church of the Protection of the Holy Virgin

The church (address: 80 Chicherin St.) was consecrated in 1914. It was built on the site of the dilapidated St. Nicholas Church, in which in 1891 a prayer service was served in the presence of the then Crown Prince, the future Emperor Nicholas II. In the late 20s of the last century, the church was closed and used for household needs. However, in 1945 it was returned to believers, and today the temple is the center of the spiritual life of Ussuriysk, and its bell tower is considered one of the architectural symbols of the city.

Emerald Valley Park

The location of this attraction of Ussuriysk and its environs is the village of Utesnoye. The park is divided into several zones. Its decoration is a Russian prison with many wooden buildings, including a watchtower, a peasant and merchant's house, a bathhouse, a forge, a prison and other household structures. Inside each building, the life of bygone eras is recreated. In the โ€œRussianโ€ zone of the park you can also see the reconstruction of the sanctuaries of the coastal peoples and get acquainted with the tools of their traditional crafts.

In addition, visitors can:

  • visit the โ€œmedieval European fortโ€, which is used as a venue for historical reconstruction festivals;
  • shoot from ancient weapons (bows, throwing machines and crossbows) in a shooting gallery and so on.
