The sewer system in an apartment and a private house is arranged on the same principle. Wastewater from various plumbing devices goes to the riser by gravity, and from there it flows into a septic tank or collector. An air valve for sewage is necessary so that no unpleasant odors appear in the rooms where the sink and bathroom, toilet and other appliances are installed.
Each of the devices is necessarily equipped with a hydraulic shutter. Usually this product is curved, made of plastic, where there is always a certain amount of water. It does not allow unpleasant air from the sewer system to be in the room.
What is the reason for the appearance of odors?
When there is no blockage in the sewer system, but an unpleasant odor sometimes appears, this can be caused by the simultaneous discharge of used water from various devices. Because of this, a certain rarefaction of air occurs in the pipe, which can squeeze out the liquid in the hydraulic locks. This becomes the reason for the unhindered intake of air, as well as various unpleasant odors from the septic tank or collector. It was to get rid of this effect that an air valve for sewage was created, entrusted with the task of balancing the pressure in the pipes.
By design, it is quite simple and consists of the following elements:
- rod - the main part of the device, which serves to open and close the hole located on the side;
- housing with a side opening that lets air in;
- rubber gasket responsible for the tightness of the regulatory element;
- cover.
The air valve for sewage is usually made in two sizes: for a common riser - 110 mm, and for individual plumbing fixtures - 50 mm.
How does he work?
The non-return air valve for sewage functions quite simply. If there is a simultaneous discharge of water from several plumbing fixtures, especially in large multi-storey buildings, some discharge of air is created in the riser. Under the influence of a large water stream, an increase in pressure occurs, and then its drop at the same rapid pace. If there is no ventilation of the common pipe, then the side opening is opened by the membrane of the air valve, which allows air to enter the riser. After normalizing the pressure, the device closes. So the air valve for sewage controls the pressure of the riser, and, if necessary, regulates it. In addition, it protects the appliance's water locks from emptying, so no unpleasant odors enter the room.
Sewer air valve: where to put it?
The device can be placed in the utility room of the house or in the attic. There are two mounting options : installing one product on a common sewer riser or a separate vacuum fixture for each plumbing fixture. Installation is carried out in the upper zone of the riser, it must be at least 100-150 millimeters from the highest point of attachment of devices. In an emergency, it will not be flooded with sewage. You can connect the product directly to the pipe, or you can use a tee or bend.
The air valve for sewage, the price of which is from 1500 rubles, is an indispensable device for organizing comfortable living conditions.
