This is an ancient and today a rather rare breed. Its origin is still not known for certain. There is a version that the Clanber spaniel is the closest relative of St. Bernard, Blanchound, Basset Hound, as well as the Alpine Spaniel, which has not survived to this day. Experts say that the dog got its color from him, and the large size, massiveness - from the rest of the breeds.
Characteristic
Clumber Spaniel is not just a beautiful dog. This is a strong and hardy representative of a large family of spaniels. In addition, this is a true aristocrat, who has been a proud title for many generations.
To date, the Clamber Spaniel is considered a rare breed, it is quite difficult to acquire such a charming friend.
This powerful and stocky dog moves slowly, with dignity. With all her appearance, she demonstrates that the bustle of life does not concern her. The animal is characterized by a balanced disposition and extreme affection for the owner. Despite the fact that the clamber - the spaniel, whose photo you see in our article - is a hunting dog, it makes a great companion.
Description
The breed was bred in the middle of the XVIII century by the Duke Noel. The outbreak of the revolution forced him to give the dogs to the Duke of England, Newcastle. Since then, the dog began to be bred in England. It was here that she was first introduced to the general public. The clanber spaniel was used as a hunting dog in the hunt for a large bird - partridge and pheasant.
Clumber can work in his pack and alone. He copes with work in a dense undergrowth, shows outstanding hunting skills on the water. It differs from other spaniels by massiveness. From this follows his slowness. But it is more than compensated by a sharp sense of smell and stamina.
Now this dog is more often used as a room dog. Clumber, as a true Englishman, is restrained and calm. An adult dog is not too active, does not like to play.
He treats other pets quite loyally, especially if he grew up with them. The dog is extremely attached to the owner. With strangers, the clamber is reserved and cold.
Appearance
As already mentioned, the Clamber Spaniel is the hardest in his family. Its height at the withers is 51 cm, weight - 39 kg. The head is massive, usually has a characteristic drowsily mild "expression of the muzzle." The nose is square, the ears somewhat resemble the shape of grape leaves. On the forepaws and on the muzzle there are specks. The coat is tight, on the ears straight, on the legs and stomach - longer and silky. The color is usually white with orange or lemon specks on the face, around the eyes, on the front legs, and also at the base of the tail. The standard allows a pure white color, but it is extremely rare.
Temperament
An “intelligent” and soft clanber spaniel can be wary of strangers. However, you must know that he is completely devoid of aggressiveness.
Health
These dogs may have a twist of the eyelids. The rest of the clanber spaniel is distinguished by excellent health.
Character
Of the many dogs of hunting breeds, these handsome men are the most calm and restrained. They are heartless, unusually sweet and distinguished by a sharp mind. This is a pleasant dog in all respects, moreover, with good manners. Clamber is characterized by tender friendship with other pets. This dog is affectionate and friendly with all members of the family in which he lives, but completely gives his heart to only one person - his master. He is devoted to him infinitely. Clumber is very gentle and patient with children. For dogs of this breed, the attention of a person and partnerships with him are important.
Hair care
The Clumber Spaniel has a very reliable fur coat - a dense coat that protects it well from the vagaries of the weather. The coat is straight, soft. There are longer strands on the ears, legs and stomach, and a luxurious thick collar adorns the neck. Clamber has two layers of wool. The top layer is made up of long outer hairs, and the bottom is a soft and thick undercoat. Shedding is pretty intense. This dog needs daily grooming with a brush and comb. Occasionally, a spaniel will also need a hairdresser.
Clean your dog’s ears and eyes regularly. Maintaining normal weight is very important for these animals, as they are prone to obesity. Due to its warm and dense coat, the clamber spaniel quickly overheats, therefore it is not recommended to be in the sun for a long time.
Training
Clumber Spaniel is very keen to please his beloved master. The animal is endowed with excellent memory, therefore, its upbringing and training are not particularly difficult. This is an unpretentious and quiet dog that does not accept tyrannical and rude methods. A more relaxed learning process with positive stimulation, praise, love, justice and consistency is more effective. It is advisable to conduct an early socialization of the animal and a training course.
Activity
Clammers feel equally comfortable in a city apartment and in a country house. They need daily active walks, for example, the spaniel will accompany the owner on a bike ride, ball game or swimming. With insufficient physical activity, the dog can gain excess weight, her muscles can atrophy and her life span can be significantly reduced.

These adorable kids on a walk love to play bring-give. Daily walks are extremely important for the mental health of the animal. Do not let the dog run ahead in a walk. The puppy must understand that the leader is man. In addition, these dogs are very fond of swimming from an early age, so do not deprive your pet of such pleasure.
