bushes look very beautiful and attract eyes. To grow a beautiful hydrangea bush, you need to know that she loves moisture and suffers from drafts. Propagation of hydrangeas is quite painstaking work. Not least is the annual
pruning of bushes. They do this in the spring, when the kidneys are already clearly visible. The older the plant, the stronger it should be pruned.
Seed propagation
Hydrangea can be grown from seeds in open ground. Reproduction of garden hydrangea, using seeds, is carried out in the spring. More precisely, in April or May (depending on weather conditions). The bed is made above ground level, it must be warmed up. If the soil is heavy, add sand. It is a good drainage, which is very important when watering.
In the soil prepared for sowing, there should be ½ peat, ½ sand, one part of leafy
land, soddy ground and humus. The bed is removed from weeds and leveled. Spread the seeds with your hands and crush a little so that they enter the ground. Sand is poured on top. If hydrangea propagation occurs in this way, its seeds do not need any processing. Shoots appear in about a month. Regular watering and weeding will provide good shoots. Potassium and nitrogen are needed for feeding. They are made in liquid form. During frosts, seedlings are covered with paper.
Bush division
Propagation of hydrangeas in this way occurs in autumn and spring. The bush is divided so that on each division there are kidneys. Planted and watered. If you do this in the spring, then in the fall there will be already quite strong seedlings. Layers usually propagate annual shoots. An escape with kidneys is dug into the hole so that part of the escape with kidneys is above the ground. The next year, the overgrown shoot is separated from the main bush and planted separately.
Propagation by cuttings
Cuttings of spring and summer propagation of hydrangeas is carried out in the summer. Spring cuttings are taken in early June, summer - in July. A slice is made from the top of the bush. On a suitable branch of the bush, a part of last year’s shoot (heel) should remain. The stalk should have two internodes, the leaves on it are cut in half. Each planted cuttings are watered dosed. Rooting occurs in 20-25 days. Excellent conditions for grafting: artificial mist and a mixture of peat and sand in a ratio of 2 to 1. Without treatment with stimulants, panicled hydrangea, the propagation of which is carried out by cuttings, will definitely take root. When treated with butyric acid (concentration of 0.01%), the remaining species are also completely rooted. Many gardeners keep strong cuttings in pots and in a cool room, for example, in a basement or a cold greenhouse, for the first winter, and in the spring they plant in open ground.
