Yekaterinburg Park "Green Grove" is a quiet corner for leisurely walks under the canopy of centuries-old trees, children's games, rides on a bicycle, scooter or roller skates. But many of those who seek to find out where the Green Grove is located in Yekaterinburg are sent here for a share of thrills - after all, this is where the most mysterious abandoned building of the city is located.
Park "Green Grove"
Green Grove is one of the most comfortable and quiet parks in the city, covering an area of ββ24 hectares. 70% of the trees here are 140-150-year-old pines, so itβs not uncommon to find friendly squirrels here. The remaining 30% is hardwood massively planted in the 1930s. In 2008, the park was recognized as a specially protected area of ββlocal importance.
In addition to the building of the abandoned hospital, Green Grove boasts a Novo-Tikhvin nunnery (founded in 1796) located on its territory, as well as the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in the immediate vicinity. On the territory of the park itself you can find a lot of benches, gazebos, playgrounds and sports grounds, a small football field.
Address of "Green Grove": Yekaterinburg, Leninsky district, st. Green Grove, 1. Landmark: the intersection of Narodnaya Volya, Sheikman and Bolshakov streets. Coordinates on the map: 56.82188 N, 60.59615 E The park is open around the clock.
History of the Monastery Grove
The second name of the park ("Monastery Grove") is directly related to its history. By decree of Alexander I, the territory of the future PKiO was transferred to the Novo-Tikhvin Monastery. Some part of the grove was given over to the monastery cemetery, the other part served as a city park. The nuns, it is worth noting, kept the territory in perfect condition.
After the revolution, "Green Grove" in Yekaterinburg was left without a master - the monastery was liquidated. In 1929, the monastery cemetery suffered - it was completely razed to the ground - it was planned to build a zoo in its place. But later it was decided to erect this complex in another place.
On the territory of the former city park "Green Grove", Lespromfak UPI organizations were located: a dendrological nursery and a botanical garden, a pond experimental farm and a fox nursery. Over time, all these institutions "migrated" to other locations, and in 1949 the Regional Yunnat station was located on the territory of the park.
Thanks to the young naturalists and their teachers, the Green Grove in Yekaterinburg was replenished with Siberian cedars, blue spruces, larches and a number of ornamental plants. The young people did not forget to take care of pre-Soviet plantings. The guys, as once the nuns, maintained their garden in exemplary condition for about 60 years.
Today, the territory of the Monastery Grove is gradually decreasing under the onset of new residential complexes and other facilities whose construction was allowed in 2002.
History of an abandoned hospital
Today it is difficult to recognize in the faceless skeleton of this building from old postcards, in the style of which avant-garde and neoclassicism so harmoniously echoed. The history of the hospital in the Green Grove of Yekaterinburg began in 1932. Then she was a hospital of the NKVD. In 1939, it was redesigned for civilians, and in 1943 it became the Central Hospital Clinical Complex. In 1953, combined with the advanced outpatient service. After a quarter of a century, the hospital found its last focus - it became the City Clinical Hospital for Emergency Medicine.
Since the building was not overhauled, by the perestroika years it was already quite dilapidated. But only in 2000 a decision was made on a large-scale restoration - the hospital departments were disbanded in other clinics of the city. Repair according to plans should take about five years. However, it was not started: the building was not even mothballed. Unguarded and open to all comers, it survived several fires.
Abandoned hospital these days
An abandoned hospital in the Green Grove of Yekaterinburg can be found at: st. March 8, 78 (intersection of Bolshakova streets - March 8). However, you should be careful - the building has become a haven for marginal elements.
The fate of the building today is very uncertain. It is recognized as a well-deserved architectural monument, but no one undertakes to restore the hospital. In November 2006 he was put up for auction. However, no applications have been received from buyers.
Visitors are attracted here by wonderfully preserved cleanliness. The hospital does not sink in the trash, like similar buildings. Its walls are dotted with many curious graffiti, some of which can claim to be the title of a work of street art. Thrill-seekers and rumors about underground passages and floors are beckoning - there should be 4 levels of the latter.
Legends of an abandoned hospital
Many Yekaterinburg residents can tell the legends associated with the unlucky building. Here are some of the most exciting of them:
- In the cellars of the hospital they kept the crazy people from Chernobyl, where the poor were tortured and subjected to terrible experiments. At level "-1" can really see a large cell. They say that next to her there is a feeling that someone invisible is standing or walking nearby.
- The legend of a white man. This is a story about a girl who decided to wander around the hospital alone. During the campaign, she suddenly met on his way a tall man in all white. The stranger terrified the researcher - she rushed to run wherever her eyes looked. However, the pursuer eventually overtook the poor thing. When they found her, they found a huge scar on her body. At the same time, her blood tests for some reason became ideal. Surely because the man in white is really the head of the hemodialysis department who committed suicide here.
- Room of time. By some miracle, the young people found a room in the hospital that was not marked on the map - they were attracted by a mechanical watch that worked no matter what. One of the guys went out to study other departments, and the other guy stayed indoors. About three minutes. But in reality, he stayed there for three days. But again, the guys were no longer able to find the mysterious room.

Green Grove in Yekaterinburg is a universal resting place: here you can walk along shady alleys, and get acquainted with religious buildings, and, if you wish, visit a mysterious abandoned hospital.
