A monolithic foundation slab is the foundation of a sustainable home!

There are no trifles in building a house. Each stage is very important because it carries some kind of load. But the foundation is everything. The stability of walls, roofs, and ceilings will depend on how objectively you assess the situation on your site, how carefully you conduct a study of the soil and the fit of groundwater, which foundation you choose for the house.

But it is not always possible to carry out all these studies. A good helper here can be a monolithic foundation slab. A huge advantage of this option is the ability to use it in almost any area, regardless of the ground. A single base creates a floating base that can move with the soil.

To make the house more stable, the perimeter of the log house should not be larger than the dimensions that a monolithic base plate has. Its thickness can be different, but not less than 20 cm. The structure of the base depends on the materials used. As a basis, you can take a finished monolithic reinforced concrete slab. This will significantly reduce construction time, but the question will arise about the delivery of such heavy cargo to the site. A simpler option is to fill the foundation directly on the site. This will simplify the technology, but increase the time that will be spent on preparing the foundation.

There are several types of pouring to create a foundation, the basis of which is a monolithic foundation slab. Technology, first of all, depends on the choice of the type of base. Here, a shallow, deeply or unfinished foundation may be used. In the prepared pit, the depth of which is determined directly from the characteristics of your site, a sand cushion is laid. In the tamped area, reinforcement is fixed, thanks to which the foundation will become more durable. The diameter of the rod, the size and frequency of the cells are calculated taking into account the further construction. For small frame walls, you can use a simplified version of reinforcement without reinforced screed. Brick is better to put on a more solid foundation.

For pouring, it is necessary to use high-class concrete, this will ensure the quality of work, and a monolithic foundation slab will serve as a solid foundation for your home for many years. The sequence of the whole process depends on the equipment used. When laying the foundation, one should not forget about waterproofing and thermal insulation of both the plate itself and the joints between the wall and the base. This will remove all possible cold bridges and additionally insulate the house.

A monolithic foundation slab is sometimes used without digging a foundation pit. It is enough to compact the soil and fill the pillow, and then put the reinforced concrete base.

The floating foundation allows the house to withstand heavy rainfall, on heaving soils, especially in the presence of groundwater. In all of these cases, a monolithic foundation slab would be the most suitable choice. The stability of the base of the house here overlaps the high cost of the whole process.
