In The Witcher 2, control is not as simple as in many games of this genre. To understand all the intricacies of the settings, a detailed description of the game and the control of the keyboard and gamepad will be presented below.
A little plot
The second part of the story of Geralt from Rivia tells of the events that occurred after the first part, namely the fighting with the bastard of King Foltest.
As is customary in the best traditions of the Universe, choice always matters, so you should think carefully about the decisions made. After resolving the conflict with La Valetta, Voltest decides to pick up his children, but then something happens that even Geralt did not expect - an attempt is made on the king.
The crime against the crown was made by the witcher, but only from the school of the Snake, which was assisted by Scoia'tael. Since only Geralt was caught at the crime scene, they decided to make him guilty.
Not wanting to believe what is happening, his friend Vernon Rocher decides to sort out everything that happened in more detail and arranges an interrogation for the witcher. Further actions depend only on the decisions made by the player.
Combat system and character leveling
Battles with swords, as well as the control of hand wrestling in The Witcher 2, require proper configuration of the keys. The combat system is complex and multifaceted, so it’s worth going through the training stage to fully master the proposed combination of attacks and the use of force signs.
As for the character’s skills, it’s also worth approaching wisely, as some actions require control settings in The Witcher 2.
System requirements
Oddly enough, but if the computer and its components do not meet the system requirements of the game, then no control settings in The Witcher 2 will save the situation.
According to the minimum system requirements, the processor must be at least Intel Core 2 Duo, and the amount of RAM - at least one gigabyte. The game takes about 16 gigabytes, so this amount of memory must be freed up to install it. As for the video card, its volume should not be lower than 512 megabytes, which corresponds to the GeForce 8800 model. DirectX version 9 support and Internet access are required to install additional software.
Preparing the system for installation
Keyboard control in The Witcher 2 is not all, as much depends on the system’s readiness for launch and the ability to support the game.
If you do not prepare the operating system, you will have to deal with such unpleasant things as crashes from the game, freezes and slowdowns. First, check the drivers on all hardware to make sure the latest version is installed. To do this, go to the device manager and see if there are exclamation marks in front of each item name. If there is an exclamation mark, then it is worth updating the driver for this equipment. Now you can step one step closer to the control settings in the game The Witcher 2.
Basic settings
The basic settings include those that are in the main menu, which is available after starting the game. In the "Options" item, only those settings that are not related to graphic performance are available - they are configured separately. In the main menu, you can adjust the brightness, sound and other primitive parameters.
Game component
Before setting up controls in The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, you need to decide on the five main parameters of the game.
First, you should determine how difficult it is to start the game, since Geralt's ability to survive depends on this. At a lighter level, the witcher will inflict tremendous damage to enemies when the enemy is defeated by a couple of blows, and enemy attacks will do minor damage. However, with increasing complexity of the game, everything will radically change in the opposite direction, that is, the enemies will become stronger, and the witcher will have to try hard to defeat the enemy.
Next will be given the opportunity to choose the absence or display of the battle diary. This function is designed to display on the screen the damage caused and received by Geralt. To activate or deactivate this option, just uncheck / check the box.
The next parameter, requiring presence or absence, is a hint. For beginners, this option will be indispensable, since this game is not similar to others in this genre, so you should leave this function. It will familiarize the player with all the game aspects.
The fourth option is to increase the complexity of the QTE function. This operation occurs mainly in the commercials of the game, which adds a certain share of action to the gameplay. The complication is that you will have to respond faster to keystrokes. If you do not put a checkmark in front of this parameter, then in the videos it will not be, and in fist fights it will be simplified.
The last option on the gameplay has almost no effect. We are talking about subtitles that will be displayed on the screen if you check the box opposite.
Control
To change control in The Witcher 2, you first need to select the type of controller that the player will use. A keyboard is specified in the default settings, but this can be changed. Changing to control the gamepad in The Witcher 2, you can play with the joystick.
If it seems that the mouse in the game is not sharp enough, then it is worth looking into the sensitivity parameters of the mouse, since they are responsible for the response time of this equipment. The higher the sensitivity of the mouse, the better the response.
As for the inversion, it is better not to touch it, since the inversion along the X axis changes the top with the bottom, and the analogy with the Y axis changes the left side and the right side.
Basic Graphics Settings
Adjusting the brightness in the game is necessary so that you can see objects in dark places, but do not overdo it with this parameter.
As for the gamut, it needs to be adjusted so that the proposed picture was barely noticeable. This is done so that the overall color palette is perfectly balanced.
Screen resolution
This option allows you to adjust the image quality based on the pixel size of the monitor. The higher the screen resolution, the better the image quality. However, this can affect the overall performance of the game if the insufficiently powerful video card is installed, since the load will be on it.
The absence or presence of full-screen mode also affects image quality. For example, if you want to keep a clear image, you can leave the game in windowed mode. However, the use of full-screen mode will help maintain stability and prevent the occurrence of problems with RAM.
Detailed graphic options
Graphics settings always range from minimum to ultra. As you increase them, you can see how the quality of the picture changes, but at the same time the performance of the game decreases. Of course, if the computer hardware meets the optimal system requirements, then the image quality can be improved without fear of falling frames.
As for vertical synchronization, its task is to provide a certain number of frames, the frequency of which will be displayed on the monitor. The fixed frame rate provides stable gameplay without loss of image quality and performance.
The quality of textures directly affects the clarity of the surrounding space. To ensure that their quality is not in doubt, you need to check the amount of graphic memory, since texture processing is its task. Poor texture quality will show blurry outlines and fuzzy edges when maximum settings show a detailed image.
The texture memory size is a parameter that allows the user to independently determine the amount of memory that will be allocated for storing game textures. The fact is that the more memory is allocated for these purposes, the less the game will spend time loading these same textures. To ensure a smooth gameplay, you must first find out the volume of your video card. The parameters of this function range from 100 to 600 megabytes. Of course, the higher the value, the better the result, but it’s worthwhile to reasonably evaluate the capabilities of the GPU. The best option would be to use half of the video memory for these purposes. Thus, part of the memory will be allocated to the texture, and the remaining memory will go to the game.
The quality of the shadows can be useful only if you create the perfect screenshot, since this parameter does not bring significant changes to the game.
There is a parameter called “Light quality with shadow”, which is responsible for the maximum number of light sources that can simultaneously cast a shadow. There is no visual difference between high and low quality, but lowering this function will noticeably add the number of frames per second.
As for the distance of levels, then everything is simple - this function is designed to adjust the detail of distant objects. The higher the value of this parameter, the better the distant objects will be drawn. However, reducing this option will lead to a significant increase in FPS.
The “Glow” parameter does not carry much load on the system, but its presence gives the game a fabulous atmosphere, adding nebula.
In order for the bright rays of sunlight to illuminate the witcher’s path, it is worth activating the “Rays of Light” parameter, which will break through the crowns of trees, giving realistic light to the rays.
The rest of the graphical settings are not presented in such detail, so their activation or deactivation is the business of each player.
