Many people strive to make their home cozy and beautiful, indoor plants are very helpful in this. But you should not think that they will silently stand on the windowsill. Green pets require special attention and care. Orchid belongs to very capricious and demanding colors. A transplant at home is done about once every two years, but it all depends on the substrate. For example, if a flower is planted in soil from pieces of bark, then in one pot it will feel great for five years. Having planted an orchid in the moss, it should be replaced every year. And if expanded clay is a part, then transplantation is carried out every one and a half years.
Over time, the substrate compacts, poorly leaks air, retains moisture, and accumulates
mineral salts, so it needs to be replaced. In addition, an orchid can simply grow from a pot. A transplant at home is usually done in the spring, but there are emergency cases when the roots begin to rot or they grow so much that they come out of the flowerpot, and the leaves turn yellow and fall off, exposing the stem. In any case, it is necessary to know the main stages of the procedure so as not to damage the plant.
First you need to lower the pot in the water for half an hour, so that the orchid is more conveniently pulled out. A transplant at home requires special care, because the root system of the flower is very delicate and fragile. If the pot is plastic, then it needs to be squeezed from different sides so that an earthen lump falls out, with a clay pot it will be more difficult, since it is necessary to separate the ingrown roots from the walls with a wooden stick, sometimes you even have to break it.
Transplanting and
propagating orchids require a special approach. After extracting from the pot, the roots should be shaken off the ground and cleaned by rinsing with water. Then you need to carefully consider them, remove the rotten areas, and disinfect the cut sections with green paint or sprinkle with crushed activated carbon. To thin and propagate the orchid, you can divide it. A plant with too tangled roots can simply be transferred to a larger pot and topped up with a nutrient substrate.
Transplanting orchids into a glass pot is not recommended, although the flowers need plenty of light, they need to breathe. Wicker baskets that are remarkably breathable are considered ideal for them. In any case, the pot should have a hole, about half of the total volume is drainage, it is the orchid that is placed on it. A transplant at home involves an even distribution of the substrate between the roots. The soil should be selected special, light and breathable, it should contain particles of fern rhizomes, sphagnum moss, polystyrene and pine bark.
The substrate must never be tamped so as not to reduce its air and water permeability. Sometimes all the roots do not fit in the pot, they do not need to be laid there by force, let them remain on the surface. To maintain the necessary humidity, moss can be laid on top of the substrate. After transplanting, the flower does not need to be watered, just spray its leaves and leave it in a shaded place for two weeks, then transfer it to the windowsill and care as usual.
