Floor plastic skirting boards are designed specifically to hide the installation gap between the floor covering and the walls. They replaced the more traditional wood products. Floor plastic skirting boards can be made as thin as possible, since in combination with a carpet or laminate they perform exclusively decorative functions. The thickness of these products remains relevant only when laying flooring, because in this case the gap often reaches two centimeters. Everything is directly dependent on the floor area.
Destination
Plastic floor skirting boards often serve to protect walls from various damages: moisture during cleaning or blows with furniture, cleaning equipment, and feet. In most cases, these products are made from foamed polyvinyl chloride. The foaming process allows you to make the mass of skirting boards minimal. Special stabilizers are added to the composition of this substance, which makes the product as resistant to moisture, ultraviolet and aggressive chemicals that you can use when cleaning.
Since the plastic baseboard, the height of which can be up to three centimeters, does not absorb moisture, it is not afraid of decay and corrosion. Such a product is easier to choose by color, which will optimally fit the selected flooring. The skirting board can be painted wood, imitating the natural structure. A cable can be laid under the plastic baseboard, for which a special channel is provided in its design.
Mounting
It is important to ensure that the cable placed in the baseboard is not accidentally punched with a nail or screw. However, the cable does not have to be laid during the installation of the baseboard; this can be done later. It will take to loosen the screws, then install it in the groove.
The installation process of skirting boards starts from the corner of the room. They are twisted with screws at a distance of about 40-70 centimeters. When it becomes necessary to connect with an angle, a suitable piece is measured out and installed in its place. It is worth considering the millimeters covering the technical gaps in the connectors.
Plinth floor plastic wide, as well as narrow, can be fixed by one of the following methods:
- using glue;
- through clips or special mounts;
- using self-tapping screws;
- using dowel nails.
Some subtleties
If the installation of the skirting board is supposed for a long period of time, while it is not planned to change or dismantle it, then you can use glue. Clip fasteners are appropriate to use only in cases where the skirting board does not provide cable channels. When mounting in this way, you must remember that the cost of the clips is not included in the price of the baseboard itself. The surface of the walls must be smooth, otherwise the product will not stick. The most aesthetic and practical is the method of fastening using self-tapping screws, since in this case there is a special cable channel.
As you can see, floor-mounted plastic skirting boards are a very useful invention of modern industry.
