DIY boiler for a bath - how to do it?

Who did not dream at least once about their own sauna, where you can steam up in the company of friends, improve your body and temper your spirit? However, not everyone has the opportunity to get a personal steam room. But if you have a summer house or a country house, then it is a sin to deny yourself such pleasure. An integral attribute of any sauna is a stove or boiler, it is this device that heats the water and maintains the proper temperature in the steam room. A heater can be purchased, but it's no secret that this pleasure is worth certain financial costs. However, it is quite possible to make a boiler for a bath with your own hands.

What are the differences between the stove and the boiler?

When choosing a heating device for a sauna, it should first be noted that furnaces, boilers for baths perform the same function, namely, they ensure the maintenance of a normal temperature balance. Thanks to what water procedures become as effective as possible.

The differences are that the furnace is built of brick, but the boiler for the bathhouse is built from an iron barrel or from a part of a solid metal wide hose. Many prefer an iron heater, since in order to make a stone heating device, it takes a lot of time and effort.

What types of heaters are there?

All heating devices for the steam room are divided according to the type of fuel used for their operation. So, there are water heaters in which coal, gas, electricity, liquid fuel can be used, as well as wood-fired boilers.

If we consider gas units, then today they are the most economical, but only if gas is supplied to your site. Such heaters do not need fuel. Gas heating devices are compact and do not emit unpleasant odors. As for the electrical options, their use entails considerable costs, but at the same time, by installing such a device, you will not have to organize a ventilation system. Heaters for saunas that run on liquid fuel are quite picky in operation.

As for the shape and size, the metal boiler can be either large or small. Depending on individual preferences, the heater can be placed in the corner of the room or mounted on the wall. The option of manufacturing a collapsible water heater is allowed. The folding unit makes it possible to organize a steam room even in a room that cannot boast of its size. Before you start making a boiler for a bath with your own hands, it is recommended to determine not only the material, but also the way the heating design is installed.

Features of iron heaters

Considering the advantages of devices for steam rooms made of metal, it should be noted that they heat up quite quickly, have compact dimensions and are not demanding in maintenance. Iron devices heat up the entire area of the room as evenly as possible. An important advantage of a metal heating device is that it can easily be done independently even by a person who does not have special skills, the main thing is to have a desire and follow simple tips.

Choosing a heater, it is better not to choose gas or electric structures, as they can cause a fire. This can be triggered by a gas leak or a short circuit, which is not excluded in the steam room, where there is constant contact with water and increased humidity. Therefore, the most common and safe device for heating water is a wood-fired boiler. For its work, natural raw materials are used, which gradually burns out and does not pose any hidden threat.

Necessary tools

In order to create a heater for a steam room with your own hands, first of all, you need to prepare all the necessary drawings, tools and materials. Home-made boilers for a bath do not imply the presence of any complicated specialized knowledge and skills.

Homemade cauldron

From the tools you will need:

  • welding machine;
  • ax;
  • Bulgarian;
  • gasoline generator;
  • Sander;
  • metal discs.

Expendable materials

As a raw material, a barrel of iron is suitable. In addition to it, you can use, in order to make a boiler for a bath, do-it-yourself scrap of an iron hose of large sizes. Its diameter should be at least 50 centimeters, and the length on average vary from 70 cm to 1 m.

Naturally, the dimensions of the heater should be selected based on the dimensions of the room itself for bathing procedures. Such a device is suitable for heating a room of not more than 9 square meters.

Bath barrel metal heater

Making a barrel heater is the easiest way. You will need two containers, one of which will have a volume of about 200 liters. First of all, with the help of an ax, the upper part of the barrel is removed. Next, a hole for a hose is made in the tank, which will serve as a chimney.

In the barrel, which has a volume of 200 liters, the bottom is cut out, and a hole is made in it, the diameter of which is 10 centimeters. Keep in mind that the height of the hose should be slightly larger than the barrel. The pre-prepared channel should be divided equally into four parts, which are welded to the lid cut from a two-liter barrel. These devices are indispensable, primarily if you use wood-fired boilers for a bath. Wood burning products are processed by channels as they are processed. A hose with a diameter of 10 cm is welded to the back of the cap.

To make the top cover for the boiler, use a metal sheet. Holes for a hose of a similar size are made in the surface. It should be remembered that the pipe should fit snugly against the lid. Using a clamp, the bath boiler is connected to the chimney.

In conclusion, holes are made in which firewood is laid. They are also needed to clean the heater of ash. A hatch of sufficient size is cut for this, and then the door is welded. As for the blower, it is done in a similar way, but this hole should be located slightly lower than the previous one. Some are installed inside the drawer, which facilitates the process of cleaning the heating device from waste.

Bath boiler from a metal pipe

It is very simple to make a heater for a steam room from a pipe, and this does not entail large expenses. Very often, such heaters are used as a temporary option. A boiler for a bathhouse, made of a steel pipe with its own hands, can regularly last several years, but for this it is important to correctly install it and regularly clean it.

Horizontal and vertical layout

The name itself suggests that this installation method assumes that the pipe should be horizontal. In order to create a furnace, it is necessary to close one side of the future heater tightly, and to attach a door to the second. Next, fix the steel tank. The water that enters the knee is heated and transferred to the tank, and cold water enters its place. Such a process takes about twenty minutes.

Furnaces, boilers for baths
If you decide to place the pipe vertically, then first of all you need to make a plug on one side. After that, put the unit on the side with a plug and weld another one to its middle. Thus, the lower part of the heater plays the role of a furnace, and the upper part serves as a water tank. In order for a homemade heater for a steam room to serve for more than one year, use only pipes with thick walls.

Then, between the furnace and the tank, it is necessary to make a heater. To do this, make an additional hole in the pipe. Next, the grate is welded, and the door is installed. The pipe should be placed in the center, and the barrel should be put on top of it. All joints must be well welded so that the device is completely sealed.
