Modern building materials are quite diverse, which allows you to embody the most daring design ideas. Not the last place among them is basalt cardboard, the characteristics of which have long given it popularity.
What is so attractive about this material? Judge for yourself.
Basalt cardboard is made of superthin fiber, to which special binding elements are added. During production, vacuum pressing and subsequent drying methods are used.
There are several varieties of this material:
- basalt cardboard foil;
- without cache;
- with reinforcing fiberglass mesh.
All of them can be used for various purposes. But most often basalt cardboard is used for thermal insulation of buildings, pipelines, stoves and fireplaces. It is also good as a fire retardant coating for household and industrial equipment. There are frequent cases when this material is used to increase the fire resistance of metal structures. According to its technical characteristics, it was far ahead of the asbestos cardboard that was once in fashion, which is now banned for use due to increased carcinogenicity.
It is also noteworthy that it can be used at temperatures from -200 to +900 o C.
But not only for this, real masters appreciate basalt cardboard. It has many advantages over other materials:
- Environmental Safety. This cardboard does not contain and does not emit any harmful substances. That is why its use is allowed in areas requiring strict environmental control, such as: pharmaceuticals, food industry, microbiology.
- High temperature resistance and incombustibility. This material will begin to melt only at a temperature of 1000 degrees.
- Low hygroscopicity (the ability to absorb moisture from the air), which does not change throughout the life of the product.
- Vibration resistance. Only the unique structure of this material is able to withstand increased vibrations even at high temperatures.
- Strength. Basalt cardboard does not collapse with temperature changes.
- Easy installation. This material is easily cut into forms, glued with inorganic glue.
- Resistant to damage by microorganisms, fungus or the effects of rodents.
- Basalt cardboard provides additional sound and thermal insulation.
- Long service life. Experts say that in the absence of mechanical damage, it retains operational properties for up to 50 years.
Ease of installation is one of those qualities that allow the use of basalt cardboard in many repair and construction works. The most important thing here is to observe the correct sequence and take into account some little things:
- First you need to prepare the surface.
- The second stage can be called cutting material.
- Next, take care of the adhesive.
- Now you can begin the main occupation - isolation.
- If necessary, the joints should be glued with aluminum tape.
Thus, this modern material will help to solve many of your problems associated with construction.
