How to teach a parrot Jaco to talk?

Many probably saw a large gray parrot with a short red tail and black legs. His name is Gray Parrot or, as they say, Jacquot. It is believed that the Jaco parrot is the smartest. A gray parrot comes from West Africa, and it was brought to Europe in the 16th century. In nature, these birds live in forests and love to nest on the tallest trees.

Jaco, like other parrots, can be kept in cages. With proper care, Gray parrots can live in captivity for up to a hundred years. Jaco quickly learns colloquial speech and is well tamed and, if you make friends with him, he will become a loyal friend to you. Usually parrots stupidly repeat the learned phrases, but not Jacquot - this parrot does not just repeat the learned words, but applies them to the place, that is, his speech is coherent and thoughtful. However, it’s not so easy to teach Jacques to speak, and not everyone knows how to teach a parrot to speak correctly.

Only young birds are suitable for training, and the younger the parrot is, the faster he will learn to speak. The optimal age is one to two months.

The males and females of the Gray Parrot, unlike some other talking birds, have equal learning abilities, the main thing is that the bird is alone. A cage with her should be in the apartment in the most visited place, so that the parrot not only saw people, but also heard their speech. You should not rearrange the cage too often, since Jaco does not like a change of scenery - for him it is stress.

Before teaching a parrot to talk, he needs to be given time to adapt in a new place. This can sometimes take two to three weeks. Then the parrot needs to be tamed. To do this, you need to often pick him up, communicate with him, affectionately call him by name, that is, give him a lot of time and attention, and then the result will be faster. You need to speak when you clean the cell, and comment on each of your actions. In a word, before you teach a parrot to talk, you need to establish a relationship with him. Training can only begin after contact has been made. Remember that you can’t raise your voice on a parrot and offend him, because he has a good memory and will remember the offense for a long time.

It is a mistake to assume that if Jaco did not speak, then only the owner is to blame - this is far from the case. Not all birds can talk, but only one of the three, and you can’t say exactly which parrot can be taught to talk and which cannot. Birds who can observe have great learning abilities, so if you want to teach a parrot to speak, you need to choose a calm and sociable bird.

Before you teach a parrot to talk, you need to remove objects from the room so that the bird is not distracted. Some for this purpose cover the cell with dark dense tissue. But in this case, the parrot may just fall asleep, so it’s better not to do so. The room should be quiet, so the TV or radio must be turned off.

First you need to teach a parrot to pronounce one word. It can be a name or some other, simplest word. It is good if in the words there are hissing consonants or the letter p, for example, "Kesha", "Roma", "hello". After the parrot learns the first word, move on to other words and phrases. Classes are recommended to be carried out always at the same time, it is best in the morning, but it is possible in the evening after feeding. Words must be pronounced slowly, clearly, in a calm voice and always in the same key. Jacot perceives any voice - male, childish, female - no difference, the main thing is that at the beginning it was only one person, preferably the one whom the parrot loves the most. The first classes last 15 minutes, but gradually their duration increases. After it, the bird should be treated to a treat and be sure to praise.

In order for the parrot to speak faster, it is customary to put a mirror in the cage, but it must be removed for the duration of the lessons.

You can teach to speak not only large birds, but also others, for example, with a great desire, you can teach to speak a budgie. These cute birds are able to imitate various sounds, including human speech, and are able to remember not only words, but even small phrases. Male budgerigars have a great ability to imitate and begin to speak faster, but the females pronounce the words more clearly.

Having a talking parrot at home is the dream of many people. Work hard, and it is likely that after four months your feathered friend will begin to talk.
