Cyberpunk 2077 review: what awaits us?

The small Polish studio CD Projekt Red decided not to stop at the Witcher trilogy, but to continue experimenting in the Action RPG genre and announced a new project Cyberpunk 2077. The first trailer appeared in 2012, before the release of the most popular part of The Witcher, so the game is already under development more than 5 years. As you can see, the Poles do not like to rush.

Background

Before you start a review of Cyberpunk 2077 on the information available to this day, it’s worth a little talk about how the first news about this game appeared.

On May 30, 2012, CD Projekt RED announced that their new project was under development. It was also noted that the game has nothing to do with the witcher universe. Although it was clear by name. The Poles confirmed that their novelty is based on the board game Cyberpunk 2020.

It is too early to compile a full review of Cyberpunk 2077, because in addition to a short trailer and a description of the developers themselves, there is very little information.

Together with the announcement, the developers presented a short teaser, which, rather, showed the theme of cyberpunk in all its glory, rather than revealing the details of the gameplay or plot.

A year later, the creators of the game shared information on which platforms their project will be released. The spectrum includes PC, PlayStation 4 and XBOX One - all current gaming platforms to date.

After the release of The Witcher 3 in 2015, the company’s staff was expanded to work more intensively on Cyberpunk 2077. In a review for The Witcher, the developers themselves said that due to the final part of the trilogy, the creation of a new RPG about cyberpunk was suspended. After the successful release, CD Projekt RED exhaled and began to modify the game with renewed vigor and staff. Rumor has it that a ready-made demo version of Cyberpunk 2077 already exists, a review of the gameplay of which can be seen at the upcoming gaming exhibitions in 2018.

Concept and genre

The creators said that in the new RPG the player will be able to independently create a character, choose his class and skills. It also became known that the game will look not only from the third, but also from the first person with a good shooter component.

A close interweaving of the ability to install implants with unique characteristics and skills is promised, which strongly resembles the mutagens from the mentioned Witcher.

Another important aspect is the large open world in Cyberpunk 2077. A review of The Witcher 3 shows that exploring the medieval world takes more than a hundred hours. This time, CD Project RED promise a free card, which will be several times larger.

Details about the plot are known very little. It is clear that the main events will develop in the period of hostility of large corporations and the oppression of ordinary residents. The player himself will have the right to decide which side to join and what role to play in Cyberpunk 2077. It is difficult to make a review of the game according to current data, but the developers promise one of the most interesting and thoughtful RPGs, as well as a gloomy story in which much time is devoted to describing life ordinary people from bright and dark sides.

Conclusion

The release is tentatively scheduled for the first quarter of 2019. CD Projekt RED has enough time to present, indeed, one of the best RPGs of recent years and surpass the bar that they themselves set in 2015. If the studio succeeds in realizing all the ideas, then the reviews on the Cyberpunk 2077 will be replete with only high ratings and eulogies.
