One of the simplest methods of knitting - an elastic band made with knitting needles or crochet - rightfully occupies an honorable place in the piggy banks of the schemes of experienced craftswomen. Using a simple alternation of the front and back loops, you can create unique products that are not limited in shape and easily stretched if necessary. The most interesting motif belongs to the knitters of the British Isles and bears the corresponding name - "English gum". Knitting it is performed almost instantly.
Unique features of a simple pattern
During knitting of such an English motif, the nakidae in the pattern create a spectacular relief. However, it should be understood that for the increased "bulge" of the pattern will have to pay a large consumption of used yarn. Elastic knitting and knitting is one of the most expensive knitting models for materials, if we consider similar stretching motifs. Only in such a case can we hope that the English gum, knitted or crocheted, will not be pulled in the front row, as is often the case with beginners. If the edge does not become, then the entire canvas will be as smooth and accurate as possible. The main thing is that the craftswoman did not forget to finish her product with the use of a double thread, as in the beginning. You should not use an English elastic band to knit the cuffs of the sleeves or the edge of the clothing. The loose structure of such a canvas will not allow the product to keep the desired shape. All front loops in this motive will always be knitted only for the front wall. This is very important, otherwise the pattern will be broken.
English gum (knitting): scheme
The “1 x 1” pattern always starts with an odd number of loops, then the description follows:
- In the first row: * 1 front loop, single crochet, then remove one loop without knitting *. Repeat from asterisk to asterisk to the end of the row, finish with one face.
- In the second row, make a single crochet, remove the next wrong loop and knit a repeating motif: * the loop that was removed in the previous row, and the single crochet should be crocheted with one front loop, of course, only behind the front wall, then make a crochet and remove one wrong loop without knitting *.
- From the third row and further, all the double crochet stitches are knitted together with the front stitches, a single crochet must be made in front of each wrong side, and the loop itself is removed without knitting.
