The ancestor of this breed, no doubt, was a French marriage. However, experts see in the formation of the exterior of these dogs and Spanish roots. The place, time of its removal, and also the surname of the author of the creation of Bourbon marriages are thoroughly known. These hunting dogs brought the Italian breeder Aldovrandi. He worked in the French province of Bourbonnet. In 1589, the dog breeder wrote a lengthy encyclopedia about various dog breeds, in which he devoted an entire article to his pets - the Bourbon pointers.
The illustrations for this work by Aldovranti, as well as numerous portrait images on the canvases of the masters show that the 16th century Bourbon marriage was no different from the modern one. Also, his excellent hunting qualities remained unchanged. He won the fame of a gun dog, perfectly follows the trail, tireless in the pursuit of the beast. He hunts equally well as partridges and woodcocks, as well as game in the forest. However, he is a devoted and obedient companion.
Compared to other pointers, the dog breed of the Bourbonnais marriage looks more elegant and elegant. For which its representatives were honored to be admitted to the court. For a long time they took part in the royal hunts and even became a symbol of the power of the French monarchy. This served the dogs poorly in the future. The Great French Revolution was a test for the breed, because ordinary people disliked its representatives. Only in the era of the Restoration, together with the revival of the monarchy, attempts were made to restore its symbol - the Bourbon marriage.
But still this breed is considered rare. You can buy a puppy only from breeders who give the dog only into the hands of a hunter. Thus, they are baked about the safety and development of professional qualities. So what is he - a Bourbon marriage? His appearance is quite expressive. This is a dog of medium height. Males reach a height at the withers of 51-57 centimeters, bitches - 48-54 cm. They are massive, but not heavy - up to 25 and 22 kilograms, respectively. Only two types of color are allowed: either a white background with beige-gray specks, or chestnut with a lilac shimmer. A distinctive feature of the breed is a short (up to 15 cm) tail. If it is longer, this part of the body is stopped.
The character of the Bourbon marriage is angelic. He is intelligent, unobtrusive, moderately sociable. Loves all home, very obedient. He sees the difference between game and domestic animals very well, therefore he will not bring any trouble to his master. Perhaps in the pursuit (rather, sniffing) of the prey, he shows sluggishness, but completely compensates for its hard work, perseverance and diligence.
The Bourbon marriage does not have “thoroughbred diseases”. Representatives of the breed live on average 13-15 years. For a full life and full disclosure of working qualities, it is best to keep the dog out of town. Brakk needs long walks, especially at a young age. For short and thin hair, careful care is not required - combing once a week is enough. With too strict training or lack of attention, the dog can be touchy.
