Grigory Anisimovich Fedoseyev is a famous Russian writer, participant and organizer of numerous expeditions, who devoted his life to geodetic research of little-studied regions of Russia. The heroes of the author’s works are real people, friends and colleagues checked by time and trials - those with whom in the deserted taiga it was possible to share the last edge of bread.
The life of Grigory Fedoseyev was like an adventure novel: interesting, amazing, with sharp turns and events on the verge of survival. The pristine taiga, impregnable cliffs, wild animals and local natives have become familiar surroundings. He was the first to discover landscapes inaccessible at that time to an ordinary person. The geodetic track record of the tireless researcher and experienced geodesist Fedoseyev, who managed to close the white spots on the map of his country, includes the Urals, Kola Peninsula, Western Siberia, Transbaikalia, and the Far East.
Fedoseev Grigory Anisimovich: biography
Caucasus Mountains, Stavropol Territory, Kardonikskaya village. On January 19, 1899, in a peasant family, Fedoseev Grigory Anisimovich was born, whose books are read with pleasure by the modern generation. It is the mountains that will become the love and work of the life of the famous writer, but only the mountains of the East Sayan, stretching from the Yenisei to Lake Baikal for a thousand kilometers.
First there was a school, then a gymnasium, military service and the Polytechnic Institute in Krasnodar. And then the engineering and geodetic practice began, in which Grigory Anisimovich Fedoseyev succeeded not only as an experienced specialist, but also as a talented writer who managed to achieve truly mountain peaks in literary art.
His works, which were based on diary notes, were published in many languages of the world, and the writer himself became a wildlife singer, an embodiment of a wandering spirit and a tireless romantic who proudly glorified male friendship.
Feature of the literary style of the writer
All of Fedoseyev’s works are written in the first person, but the author’s name is not mentioned in any of them. The structure of direct speech is so masterly that there is not the slightest hint of a proper name. The narrator constantly remains in the background, although he takes a direct part in the narrated events. The lyrical digressions of the author make an incredible impression, where any description of nature is inextricably linked with the plot of the works, the most unusual of which is the story-tale “Tagged”.
An interesting writing style, which has never been used before in Russian literature: the narrative comes from the face of wolves, whose actions and thoughts are based on two actions - “track down and attack”. Only an attentive observer and naturalist, who was Fedoseyev Grigory Anisimovich, could so accurately depict the life of the taiga, not yet touched by man. A small-volume work, on which the author worked all his life, is read in one breath.
Love of a lifetime: East Sayan
The author’s first work, “We Walk along the East Sayan,” based on diary notes, immediately after publication became surprisingly popular and was published by many publishers. Inaccessible ridges of the mountain range, hidden under sharp clouds hanging low clouds, waterfalls falling off at a frantic speed and a man with his perseverance, determination, courage.
The expedition in these mountains was very difficult, almost on the verge of a catastrophe: all its members moved with difficulty, several weeks ago their food supplies ran out. People sent for help crashed on the shiver (rocky slope) of the Kizir River. Nevertheless, the path has been traveled. After him followed the same dangerous and impassable, but necessary for science expeditions.
An impressive collection of plants, birds, skins, animal horns of the Far East and Siberia was donated to the Academy of Sciences by Grigory Fedoseev. It is East Sayan that keeps the writer's ashes (according to his wishes), and the Eden pass, located in the spurs of the Grandiose - the highest peak of the mountain range, bears the name of Fedoseyev.
Yambuy: why did people disappear?
According to the story of Grigory Fedoseyev “The Evil Spirit of Yambuy”, directed by B. Buneev in 1978, the film of the same name was made, which became the leader of film distribution and received the Jack London Award. The events of the story unfold in the 40s of the 20th century in remote areas of Eastern Siberia.
In the process of geodetic research, one after another, not far from the Yambuy char, three expedition members disappeared. It turned out that the evil spirit of Yambuya is a huge cannibal bear that took the lives of the inhabitants of this region. Fedoseyev and Kararbakh had to arrange a dangerous hunt for this monster.

A feature of the writing talent of Grigory Anisimovich is that his books are read in one breath. Some people even thought that someone else wrote for Fedoseyev. The truth is that the author’s wife, Elena Iosifovna Glosinskaya, reprinted all his manuscripts after her husband, since the latter’s handwriting was very illegible and difficult to read.
“Death will wait for me”, “Pashka from the Bear's Log”, “Path of Trials” - the works of the author, whose literary talent briskly gained momentum, came out one after another. During his lifetime, Fedoseyev was often published in the Roman Gazette and the Siberian Lights magazine, under the heading Notes of Experienced People. A real number of genuine books were published, while foreign publications published by the Russian writer very actively.
Finding Pashka Kopeikin
There was a case when a wealthy Frenchman came to Grigory Fedoseyev’s daughter Vera, who read the story “Pashka from the Bear’s Log” and wished to find the hero of such a wonderful work. Having traveled all the villages in the Sayan Mountains and spending a lot of money searching, he could not find a trace of Pashka Kopeikin and decided for himself that such a person did not exist at all and the hero Fedoseyev was simply invented. So, in bitter disappointment, the foreigner left. After a short period of time, Vera was sorting through her father’s archives and stumbled upon an old photo with a blond-haired guy standing by the fire among surveyors. On its reverse side was an inscription made by the mother’s hand: “Pashka”.
The final work of Fedoseev
In memory of the Evenki conductor Ulukitkan, a faithful friend, Fedoseyev wrote the book “The Last Bonfire”, as it turned out, his final work.
The heart of a courageous man, who overcame thousands of kilometers over many years under inhuman conditions and wrote thousands of lines, could not withstand excessive stress. June 29, 1968 Grigory Anisimovich Fedoseyev died. The writer was in Moscow at that time.

For many years, the ashes of the great researcher and talented writer Fedoseev Grigory Anisimovich rested on the Sayan Pass, but the reader’s interest in the works of this cheerful and enthusiastic surveyor engineer did not fade. In his books about the impenetrable taiga, wild animals, Evenki nomads, the main theme is a man with his qualities: nobility, determination and the ability to come to the aid in difficult times. Grigory Anisimovich Fedoseyev in his works, relevant even today, vividly showed examples of true human friendship and sincere love for nature.
