Samara population - why it is declining

Samara is a beautiful city about which many songs are composed. It is located on the left bank of the Volga, between the mouths of the Sok and Samara rivers in the Russian Federation. Thanks to the name of the river, he got his name - Samara. The population of the city, according to the 2011 census, is 1170000 people. By the number of people living in the city, he takes third place among all cities in Russia. It is the largest economic, scientific, educational and transport center. Industries such as oil refining, food processing and engineering are concentrated here.

The population of Samara has different roots and origins. Of course, the main population of the city are Russians. According to various sources, their number is from 83% to 83.6%. Almost equally accounted for the peoples of the Chuvash and Tatars. Here they occupy 3.1% and 3.9%, respectively. The share of Mordovians is 2.7%, and Ukrainians - 1.9%.

According to the forecast made by the UN, Samara takes the twelfth place among all the cities of the world belonging to endangered cities, giving way only to Ukrainian Odessa and Russian St. Petersburg. Back in the 90s, the population of Samara increased from year to year. In 1991, this number was the highest. During this period, the number of people living in the city reached 1260103 people. After just one year, Samara was almost in first place in terms of declining numbers. If you give an example on specific figures, then in 2003 the city lived 1162.7 thousand people, in 2005 - 1143.4 thousand people, in 2010 - 1133.75 thousand people. As you can see, the number of residents of the city is reduced from year to year, and over the period from 2003 to 2010, it decreased by 28,946 people.

Why is the population of Samara declining? According to the leadership of Rosstar, since 2007 the number of newborns, although insignificantly, has been increasing from year to year. So, for example, if in 2006 the number of women giving birth to a second child was 29.8%, then already in 2010 this number increased significantly and reached 35.8%. A similar picture occurred with women in childbirth of the third child. If in 2006 they amounted to 5.1%, then already in 2010 - 7.4%. As for the total number of births, in 2012, 36,200 newborns were registered, which is 6% more than in 2011. But no matter how the number of newborns grows, it cannot surpass mortality. So, in 2012, 41,000 death certificates were registered. As you can see, the city is really dying. According to UN forecasts, if everything continues in the same direction and the demographic situation of the city does not change, then by 2025 the population of Samara will decrease by 10% compared to 1990. This figure will be approximately 1,116,000 people.

In addition, attention should be paid to the fact that the population of Samara is dissatisfied with the standard of living. This was stated by 41% of the city. Perhaps this is one of the factors affecting the current demographic situation in this locality. According to experts conducting a population survey, indicators such as stable working conditions, the level of health care development, income level, the opportunity for leisure, the conditions for doing business, have the greatest impact on the standard of living in the city. With the improvement of these indicators, it is possible that the birth rate will increase and mortality will decrease.
