But were the fans' hopes justified? And was Fallout 4 worth the wait? The review in Russian, presented on our website, will try to answer all these questions. Release date - November 10, 2015 - can safely be inscribed in history. After all, this day was eagerly awaited by many players around the world. And no matter how opposing and ambiguous the reviews are, this game is worth it. Overview of the game “Fallout 4” you need to start with a description of the plot. Our main character, waking up from a dream that lasted more than a hundred years, sees through the doors of the cryochamber how his spouse (or spouse) is killed and the child is taken away. Having recovered a little, we are recovering in search of our son. And now we find ourselves directly in a detective story in which we have to unravel intrigues, learn secrets and hear shocking memories - we can say that the script was a success.
The main plot is a little linear, but still it will lead you through the most important cities and places and introduce you to all fractions of the Commonwealth, with each of which we will have to interact. At the same time, you should try to maintain neutral or friendly relations with all groups as long as possible. After all, this will allow you to visit their base, where you can always use the services of a doctor or get a free bed and food, but at some point the hero has to make his choice.
Freedom of action and an open world
As Todd Howard, director and executive producer of Bethesda Game Studios, stated, you can do anything, but in the context of the fact that the hero is looking for his child, his desire to help someone build a village or bring an artifact is not a bit matched. So it makes sense to go through the main storyline, and only then proceed to additional tasks, which are a huge number in the game. However, some of them are quite original and most often lead to new tasks. So you will always find something to do when traveling along the not-so-big, but saturated map of Fallout 4.
A plot review cannot be done without a description of the ending, but here the developers decided that life in the wasteland does not end, so as such, you will not find the end of the game. This is quite original, but a little disappointing. The plot of the game, one way or another, revolves not only around finding a child, but also around the attitude of others towards synthetic people. Should they be afraid? Or consider them ordinary people? You have to decide, while such a thing as “karma”, which is responsible for the positive and negative attitude of others to your decisions, no longer exists. And this becomes a real freedom of choice, because the game does not dictate to you what to do.
Fallout 4. Fractions Overview
The player has a lot to interact with the outside world, and not the least role in this is played by various groups that are at war with each other, have a specific goal and their own secrets. And, despite the freedom of action, the hero will have to give preference to one of them, because the main plot is tied precisely to the factions. Much depends on our actions, and this or that act rewrites the scenario of interactions with groups, of which there are four in the game:
- Minutemans - a group that focuses on the creation of new settlements. This faction is always ready to help the civilians of the Commonwealth, but it is extremely cruel to deal with opponents.
- Paladins from the Brotherhood of Steel already familiar from the previous part. These high-tech militarists flew onto the Airship to wipe the Institute off the face of the earth.
- Underground is a faction who wants to destroy the Institute and free synthetic people, considering those to be no different from ordinary people.
- Institute - a group of scientists creating artificial people (or as they are commonly called in the game - "synths"). They live in an underground shelter, which can only be reached through teleport. The main goal of this group is the revival of life on Earth.
Each faction has its own tasks and interests, and none of them can be called bad or good. The player should give preference to one that is closer to him in terms of ideology. If you want to develop and build settlements - welcome to the minutemans. The warrior player will be in the spirit of the Brotherhood of Steel. The Institute faces the most difficult moral dilemmas. But if he is extremely unpleasant to you, then freely join the ranks of the Underground - all the quests of this fraction are tied to a secret and explicit confrontation with the Institute.
Wasteland is not a place for loneliness
Overview of the game “Fallout 4” can not do without mentioning partners. Of course, such characters existed in the last part, but they were not particularly expressive, silent and were used most often as pack animals. Now everything has changed dramatically - the partner has his own story (albeit a little unfinished), character, reacts to the actions of the main character and can get into dialogs with other characters. Separately, you need to mention the dog - a few perks and from this dog you can make a killer terminator that will not become superfluous during the battle.
Interaction with others
Cities and settlements have become more lively. Their inhabitants have acquired many different activities, and the hero will always find with whom to trade, chat and get a new task. This is a huge plus, but the dialogue system has significantly deteriorated compared to the previous part. Sometimes it’s not very clear what your hero will say if you choose one or another answer option. If you make friends with someone, you can get some useful skill that will not be superfluous during the passage of “Fallout 4”.
An overview of romantic relationships can be expressed as follows - they exist. A love story will not become too confusing or complicated. A few remarks with a bias on flirting - and the hero will acquire a lady or a gentleman. But the only bonus that can be obtained from this is a small temporary increase in experience points, which can be obtained from sleeping in the same bed.
Wasteland can be beautiful
The game turned out to be atmospheric, however, Bethesda Game Studios is famous for this. This is not to say that the graphics in Fallout 4, which we are reviewing, have become some kind of breakthrough or have an incredibly beautiful picture. But still there is a huge step forward. Design and drawing locations is fun and pleasing to the eye, and also makes you spend a huge amount of time in search of new settlements or places to explore. A huge impression is made by radioactive storms, which can be observed only from the shelter, because the hero instantly dies in them. The musical part of the project also immerses the game completely. In addition to the main soundtrack, you can listen to the radio, but most of the tracks are familiar to us from the previous part, which is a bit boring.
Character upgrade in Fallout 4
The review in Russian presented on our website needs to be continued with these words - the game ceases to be an RPG and turns into an action game. The developers overdid it with the simplification of pumping the SPECIAL system, and now it is not necessary to puzzle over which parameters to make the main ones - everything is merged into one system from the characteristics to which 10 skills are tightly bound.
Of course, you should not think that with an intellect of 4 you can crack complex locks, and still have to think about what skill is better to pump now, and what can be improved another time.
Combat & Critical Strikes
The VATS system, known to us from the previous parts, has undergone changes. First of all, this is no longer freezing time, but its slowing down. In addition, there is no longer a random critical hit, but a scale accumulation system, the speed of which depends on several factors. Opponents have become smarter, move around, hiding behind obstacles, can throw a grenade or shoot from a shelter - which makes the battle more dynamic and interesting in Fallout 4.
Weapons can be reviewed for a very long time, because in the game it became not only larger, but the possibility of its creation increased. Now one can already feel the benefit of the trash lying around the wasteland, because any weapon can be improved or changed using improvised means. In general, the construction and creation of objects is a separate issue, but it can be spent more than one hour.
Expert Reviews
Famous reviewers who responded differently to the game “Fallout 4” did not pass by this game. The “Stopheim” review evaluates the new post-apocalypse “Amazing”, and this is the highest score, despite small claims to a simplified pumping system and unimpressive graphics. But the atmosphere, the variability of the quests and the great potential for crafting weapons outweighed these shortcomings.
Such a well-known connoisseur of games, like "Rap Game", did not pass his attention. A review of Fallout 4, held recently, described this game as one of the best in 2015. Like everyone, there are small claims to the schedule, but in general the game is made to "excellent." And, according to the surveyor himself, he does not regret that he spent many hours playing in Fallout 4.
The review "Gambling" conducted a more thorough, and the game made an indelible impression on these experts. Let's start with the shortcomings, which include the weakness of the first half of the plot, the insufficient depth of the history of the satellites, the small number of missions and the unintelligibility of the finale.
