Shrub sod - a reliable assistant landscape designer

Shrub sod is a favorite plant of landscape designers. Its name from Latin can be translated as β€œhorn”. Sod wood is very heavy and dense. In nature, its thermophilic species grow in southern countries: in Central Africa and Latin America. And more frost-resistant - everywhere in the Northern Hemisphere. Both deciduous and evergreen, the sod shrub is surprisingly beautiful.

Its foliage looks spectacular, small but graceful white flowers and contrastingly colored shoots. Landscape architects often use turf for a variety of compositions - a shrub, a photo of which can be found in any magazine dedicated to the decoration of the garden. Let's take a brief look at what care this plant requires.

White sod (shrub): description and features

This is a very common species - in nature it grows throughout Russia, with the exception of the northern regions, in Korea and China. Reaches three meters in height. Sod shoots are dark red, brown or black with a reddish tint. This gives the shrub an extra decorative effect. On young shoots you can often see a dull grayish coating.

It disappears when the bush sod becomes larger. Small white flowers begin to appear in early summer. Repeated flowering occurs in September. Unless, of course, the autumn comes out too cold. Thus, the sod bush in this period is simultaneously decorated with bluish fruits and numerous inflorescences. This gives it a very pretty look. Flowering and fruiting of turf usually begins after it reaches the age of three years. This shrub is extremely hardy: it tolerates heat, shade, poor soil, air pollution without deterioration of the quality of leaf cover. Because of this, he is a frequent visitor to urban front gardens. Used by designers for hedges, landscaping alleys and lawns. Decorative forms of turf are distinguished by the color of the leaves. Often there is a colorful border on them. Or, conversely, the contrasting middle of the sheet. For example, Gauhult turf is covered with yellowish and pink spots. Because of this, it looks blooming almost all year round. Red sod above white.

Its inflorescences are larger. Leaves are both green with a reddish tint, and almost burgundy. Some varieties are spotted with yellow dots.

Agrotechnics turf

Shrub should be planted in groups. Between the copies should remain a distance of sixty centimeters. It is advisable to plant them in soil fertilized with compost and humus. Add sand or clay to the top layer, depending on what the soil is missing. You can do without drainage and without control of acidity: as already mentioned, sod is unpretentious and grows well on any soil. In summer, the shrub can be fertilized with compost, and in the spring - with mineral fertilizers. Moderate watering involves half a bucket of water per adult plant every week. Care for the turf will be incomplete if you do not regularly cut this shrub. Thinning of the crown should not be too intense. It must be produced in the spring. Too much pruning can cause uncontrolled shrub growth.
