Choosing a fabric for the cat
Material for home-made toys can be any trim and remnants of fabric. Even a toy made of chintz, due to handmade work, will look unusual and stylish.
When creating a pattern of children's pillows, toys, it is necessary to think through a combination of patterns and textures, fabrics used in advance. Preference should be given to bright, natural and soft materials. As a filler, it is better to use synthetic winterizer and other artificial fillers that do not cause an allergic reaction in children.
How to sew a pillow toy (cat) for a child?
Details of the pattern are laid out on fabric cuts and outlined with tailor chalk or pencil. The lines should be clear and neat. According to the cut, the cat will have a multi-colored body and ears. It is necessary to apply the contours of the allowances, for greater convenience in work.
All edges of the fabric pattern must be processed on an overlock or in any other accessible way. The body parts are folded facing each other, fastened with sewing pins and sewn with a sewing machine, leaving only a small portion of the seam unfinished to turn out and fill the pillow. The ears and tail of the cat are stitched in the same way.
The torso and tail are turned on the front side and filled with synthetic winterizer or cotton. Stuffing the body should begin with the paws and head. For convenience, you may need a long stick or pencil. Then the seams are carefully completed manually from the front side. You need to try to make the stitches as inconspicuous as possible. It is better not to fill the ears, but simply turn them out.
Then you can sew on the ears and tail of the toy. At this stage, it is not necessary to make the seams invisible. A little "sloppy" seam will give the cat a special charm and indicate the manual performance of the toy. On the belly of a cat, you can embroider the name of the child or attach a small label indicating the home address and phone number of the parents.
In order for the cat's eyes to be like factory toys, you need to purchase special beads in a needlework store. If you couldn’t find such, buttons will be a great replacement. The nose, cheeks and mouth are easily embroidered with colored threads or drawn with special markers for fabric.
