Activities in the Crimea during the coup

Events associated with the transition of Crimea under the control of Russia, developed quite rapidly. Many naval commanders swore allegiance to the Russian Federation, thus betraying their country. But not Sergey Gayduk. He remained faithful to his homeland until the last.

When the naval forces were left without leadership, it was he who was appointed acting commander of the Navy. It happened on March 2, 2014. And after 5 days by the decision of the interim government of the country, he took this position on an ongoing basis.

On suspicion of the FSB of Russia, he was detained on March 19. He was charged with the fact that the commander passed the order to the military units, which he received from Kiev, on permission to use weapons against civilians.

But on the same day, Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation S. Shoigu intervened in the situation, who advised him to release Haiduk, since there was no fault of him in that he carried out the orders of the commander-in-chief of his country. On the morning of March 20, the Vice Admiral was released near the checkpoint near the village of Chongar.
