Even the most solid and strong house may need to repair the foundation, if during the construction some mistakes were made. In addition, this is possible if the house is on moving ground. What are screw piles?
These devices are hollow pipes. At one end, it has special cutting blades. With their help, the pipe is screwed into the soil to the required depth. At its other end is a head. Its purpose is to support the foundation of the home when you are doing foundation repairs with screw piles.
Where are used?
Screw piles are used in the construction of masts and supports of power lines, fences, billboards advertising, marinas, moorings, while strengthening the soil in the landslides.
How to make?
Of course, the ideal option is to buy a screw pile in a specialized store. Here you should be provided with all the necessary documentation: technical passport indicating all the parameters of the pile, quality certificate. The staff of the trading organization is obliged to answer all questions of interest, give the necessary advice, help in the selection. When buying piles, be sure to pay attention to the parameters specified in the passport, and the compliance of all characteristics.
When making piles, it is necessary to be guided by SNiP 2.02.03-85 “Pile foundations”. It is very difficult to make the screw itself out of the whole product. Often it is not possible to choose the right angle. The final welding of the product is best entrusted to a specialist welder.

The advantages of this design lie in its versatility, low complexity, the possibility of application in any soil (except rocky) and easy dismantling during redevelopment of the site. An undoubted advantage is the shortest possible time of foundation erection, durability of the structure (up to 150 years, and piles treated with a special composition will last up to 200 years). There are also disadvantages of this design: stray currents in the soil have a great influence on corrosion resistance, miscalculations are possible when choosing the diameter of the pile and the wall thickness of the pipe trunk. Also, in handicraft manufacturing, the quality of the welds is of great importance.
So, we found out that for the work we are interested in, it is best to use screw piles. Foundation repair, like any other work, must take place in several stages:
- First you need to analyze the soil under the house. You must find out what species it consists of, calculate its density.
- Next, you need to determine the degree of damage to the foundation of the house in order to understand: whether to change it completely or simply use screw piles. Repair of the foundation in this case can be performed independently.
- Having decided on the scale of damage, it is necessary to raise the house using jacks and wooden posts. Before this work, furniture should be removed from the home, if possible, to reduce its weight.
- Beams should be placed around the perimeter of the house and under the supporting walls. They must exactly match the size of the building.
- Along the walls at a distance of about 30-40 cm, screw piles are vertically screwed into the ground.
- All piles are cut at the same level. By welding, they are connected to the beams under the house.
- The old foundation can then be dismantled.

To do this, it is enough to screw the screw piles into the necessary places and strengthen them with anchors and welded devices.
