Drizzt Do 'Urden is a book character created by science fiction writer Robert Salvatore, as well as the hero of a series of computer games that take place in the Forgotten Realms universe. Drizzt first appeared on the pages of the novel "Ice Wind Valley", and then Salvatore wrote a separate cycle about this hero, which began with a prequel trilogy that tells about the character's youth.
Character Creation
Drizzt Do 'Urden (the dark elf or drow) was invented by the author for the book Crystal Shard, published in 1988. Initially, Salvatore planned to make the main character of the work of the barbarian Wulfgargh. But the editor of the publishing house demanded that the author invent an unusual companion for his main character.
Salvatore, without leaving the editor’s office, came up with a name for the new hero and the main characteristics - the drow tracker. In further work on the book, the author polished the image of Drizzt, giving the dark elf the features of his favorite movie hero - Zorro.
Drizzt has become the favorite character of Salvador and most of its readers. He often leads polls and ratings about the heroes of the Forgotten Realms universe.
Biography
Drizzt Do 'Urden (character in the Forgotten Realms universe) is the youngest of the sons of Malis, the matrons of the ninth House of the drow city of Menzoberranzan. His father was a gunsmith at home - Zaknafein. The third son in the family, Drizzd was to be sacrificed to the goddess Lolth, according to the custom of the dark elves. But on the day of his birth, the eldest son in the family was killed, his death was considered a sacrifice.
Raised little Drizzt Wyrne, his sister. From childhood, the youngest son was very different from other drow by the manifestation of mercy. Thanks to his father’s innate agility and training, Drizzt has become an excellent swordsman. However, the cruelty of relatives led to the fact that the hero fled. He wanted to call his father with him, but Malice sacrificed him to the goddess Lolth.
After the escape, Drizzt spent many years in the Dungeons. In these wanderings, Panther Guenhwyvar was his only companion. Loneliness adversely affected his mental health, he repeatedly fell into the rage of a berserker.
Drizzt later met the gnome Belwar, who became his companion. But the family did not forget about him, continuing to pursue, then the drow decided to leave the Dungeon and come to the surface.
Surface
On the Surface, Drizzt Do 'Urden became the same outcast he was among his brethren. He was persecuted by people and tried to kill, considering it dangerous. Drizzt spent some time in the grove where the ranger Montoli lived, who taught the elf how to live on the Surface. After Montolio died, Drizzt traveled to the Valley of the Ice Wind. Here he became friends with the Dwarf King Bruenor and Catti-Brie, his daughter.
After that, Drizzt became famous as a magnificent warrior and became the hero of the Valley, taking part in the battle against the barbarians and the war with the sorcerer Akar Kessel, who went insane. Then the dark elf went to Mithril Hall on a Bruenor trip, in which he made himself a serious opponent - the hired killer Artemis Entreri.
Once again, the drow raid Mithril Hall, which kills Wulfgar, Drizzt's friend and groom Catti-Brie. for many years after that, Drizzt was tormented by the dilemma of whether he had the right to be with Catti-Brie, especially when Wulfgar was reborn. The elf’s suffering ended when Wulfgar married another girl, and Catti-Brie elected Drizzt.
The Dark Elf invasion was only stopped by the combined forces of the Harpell magicians, dwarves, and Silver Moon Knights. After these events, Catti-Brie and Drizzt left Mithril Hall and fought with the pirates for the next 6 years, sailing on a ship under the command of Dudermont. However, the past did not leave lovers there either. Through various tricks, the demon Errtu lured into the Valley of the Winds of Drizzt and Catti-Brie, where they had to fight evil. During the battle, it turned out that in fact Wulfgar was alive, although he changed due to the suffering experienced in demonic captivity.
War with orcs
Wulfgar leaves his friends, because he does not think that he will not be able to live in peace after all that he experienced in captivity with Errtu. At this time, Drizzt Do 'Urden and his friends set off to destroy the Crenshinibon artifact. But Jarlax tricks them, and then takes Crenshinibon. Friends catch up with the kidnapper, and Drizzt is forced to fight with Artemis Entreri, the sworn enemy of the dark elf. The parties disagree after Jarlax imitates the death of Drizzt.
After long wanderings, Wulfgar returns to the company. And friends set off in search of the Fang of the Protector that Wulfgar had lost.
The war of Mithril Hall flares up with Obould, the king of the orcs, who gathered a huge army. Returning with dwarves subordinate to him, Brenor Warhammer decides to separate from the main army and poison himself with his friends and the most trusted people. This ends up being in a fortified city surrounded by orcs cut off from the main military forces. Drizzt goes on reconnaissance, but the orcs denser surround the fortress, and it is cut off from friends. The drow sees the orcs breaking through the defenses and breaking into the city. Drizzt, confident that his friends are dead, becomes furious and slaughter orc tribes at night.
But in fact, Bruenor and the others are saved and returning to Mithril Hall, where the main battle with the forces of Obould takes place. As a result, during the battle with Drizzt, the orc king falls into the crevice.
End of war
Drizzt Do 'Urden finally returns to Mithril Hall and reunites with friends. Here the drow tries to spend all his time with Catti-Brie. At the same time, he is trying to persuade Bruenor to conclude a truce with the orcs, which in fact is the real purpose of Obould.
Dissatisfaction with the actions of his king begins to grow in the army of orcs. A group of conspirators appears who are attempting to overthrow Oblda. The king manages to avoid death at the hands of traitors only thanks to the help of Drizzt and Bruenor. After that, dwarves and orcs sign a peace treaty.
Pirates
After these events, Drizzt Do 'Urden, whose adventure books are popular all over the world, joins Captain Dudermont, who is trying to defeat the lich Arklem Grit, who heads the Main Tower of Witchcraft in Luskan and helps the pirates.
Drizzt and Deudermont eventually manage to destroy the lich’s physical shell, depriving him of power. Deudermont is appointed ruler of Luskan. But because of the conspiracy of the High Captains, he perishes, and all power goes to this society. Drizzt and the surviving satellites of Duderman manage to escape from the city. Despite the fact that the rulers of the city suffered heavy losses, the Tower of Witchcraft is still intact, and falls into the hands of Valindra, a disciple of the defeated Lich.
At the same time, it becomes clear what happened to Wulfgar - he returns to the Valley of the Ice Wind, to his homeland, to the place where his journey began long ago. Here he managed to find peace of mind, and the visions of demonic torture finally began to recede. He began to live the calm life that his ancestors lived. His path diverged from the path of the dark elf and he will no longer participate in adventures, which Drizzt Do 'Urden will once more engage in.
Comic about the adventures of the drow is mainly a repetition of novels, and in our country is not very popular.
Last book
In 2009, the last book about the adventures of the drow was published, which was called the “King of Ghosts”. This novel describes the Magical Plague that plunged the world into chaos. Artifacts are destroyed, magicians die, impostors call themselves kings - Drizzt and his friends have to deal with all this and many others.
Drizzt Do 'Urden: personality and appearance
Drizzt is very different from other drow. His cruelty, meanness and treachery are alien to him. It was for his humanity and nobility that he became an outcast among the dark elves. After that, novels about the adventures of Drizzt and his friends begin to be published. To date, 13 such books have been written and 2 more are unfinished.
Computer games
Drizzt appeared several times in various games in the Forgotten Realms universe, mainly as an episodic hero. For example, in the games Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn, the drow is encountered by the players as an assistant or opponent to defeat.
In Forgotten Realms: Demon Stone, the player gets the opportunity to pass part of the game as Drizzt. In addition, you can play as a dark elf in games such as Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance and Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance 2.
