Thuringian Pinscher, Doberman dog, Doberman Pinscher or just Doberman - the names of the same breed of dogs, bred relatively recently.
Dobermans are used by humans as bloodhounds, guard dogs and guide dogs.
Breed history
The breed was bred by the German tax collector Frederick Louis Dobermann at the end of the 19th century.
The position held by Frederick was fraught with danger, and he needed an aggressive dog, capable of protecting him, and at the same time not requiring special care. Dobermann was the owner of a shelter for stray dogs, so it was not difficult for him to realize his plans. Having crossed dog breeds characterized by aggressiveness, endurance and high watchdog qualities - a German pinscher, a Rottweiler, a Manchester terrier and a pointing dog, Dobermann quickly deduced the type of dog he needed. Subsequently, the bred breed was named after its owner and became known as the Doberman.
Distinctive features of the breed
The Doberman breed stands out for its elegant and proud look. This is a fearless, muscular and quick-witted dog - qualities that allow you to use the Doberman as a guard and watchman. Developed sense of smell contributes to the fact that the Doberman is considered an unsurpassed bloodhound. The dog is strongly attached to the owner and members of his family, does not trust outsiders, moderately aggressive. Do White Dobermans
In the 70s of the last century, an attempt was made in the United States to bring to light the Doberman breed with white wool. The albino bitch was born from ordinary parents. When she reached puberty she was crossed with a Doberman of a traditional color, but there was no white puppy in the litter. White Dobermans appeared as a result of crossing a mother-bitch with her son. These dogs were the progenitors of all Doberman breed albino dogs found in the United States. Therefore, white Doberman is considered an incomplete or partial albino. There was no point in recording the result, since the bred white individuals did not differ in quick wits, had unpredictable behavior, and were susceptible to various diseases due to low immunity. Like all albinos, they lack the genes responsible for pigmentation and are doomed to suffering, but this does not mean that white Dobermans have no right to exist.
Why FCI does not recognize Dobermann albino
Until the beginning of the last century, only the black and tan color of this breed of dog was recognized. Later, another color was taken as the standard - brown and tan. Until recently, white Dobermans were extremely rare, considered abnormal and rejected.
Not so long ago, a new, so-called blue and isabella color of dogs of this breed was bred by American and British dog handlers. But the International Canine Federation (FCI), which approves breed standards, does not recognize this clarified color among Dobermans. And for this, FCI has quite reasonable explanations: light and white Dobermans have poor health and have a number of problems of a genetic level. They suffer from photophobia, which negatively affects the watchdog and working qualities of dogs of this breed, and their further breeding is considered inappropriate.
Should I buy a white Doberman puppy
It's no secret that a man loves everything unusual, and the temptation to acquire a Doberman puppy with white hair is quite large. Sometimes dishonest and money-hungry dog breeders try to convince their potential buyers that they are breeding white Doberman dogs. The price of Doberman albino is sky-high, but in fact, in pursuit of profit, you will be sold a sick animal with weakened immunity. For lovers of the breed, from private sellers you can buy a Doberman puppy at a price of 15 to 35 thousand rubles. But in the nursery, the price can reach up to 60 thousand rubles. For a white Doberman, prices at the owners can be twice as much. But is it worth it to spend so much? While the puppy is small and has enough strength to fight for its existence, birth defects are almost invisible. But over time, the dog becomes more nervous and cowardly, is lost, having fallen into unfamiliar conditions. More attention has to be paid to the state of her health - the animal develops skin diseases, there are problems associated with the activity of the thyroid gland, the already rare coat falls out, and the dog goes bald.
In order not to jeopardize the gene pool of the breed as a whole, it is not recommended to breed Dobermans with blue or isabella color.
How to choose a Doberman puppy
The Doberman breed is finding more and more new adherents. However, before buying a Doberman puppy, think carefully about whether you will be able to create conditions necessary for him to develop correctly and for what purpose you need a dog of this breed. Choose who is preferable to you - a dog or a bitch.
A healthy and thoroughbred puppy should have dark eyes, a long neck, and a strong, almost square body. Curved limbs and light spots are defects. It is believed that the brighter the tan, the stronger the animal’s immune system .
The tail of a 1.5-month-old puppy should be stopped - the wound should already have healed by this time. At the same age, Doberman puppies can start to stop ears, therefore, if you do not have enough experience in breeding dogs, then you can get a pet with ears already cropped.
Up to 3 months of age, the puppy should be vaccinated against leptospirosis, plague and parvovirus infection.
A puppy card must be issued to the new owner on the acquired puppy.
